First races of the season due up in the next feed hours. It’s a series of IBSF races in Yanqing that aren’t World Cup events, yet should feature many of the teams you’d expect to see on circuit.

Good results for :GBR. We always do well on new tracks, where our main rivals don’t have the inherent advantage of long experience.

Our athletes were not in China.

This actually gives me hope that they are already prepping for the qualifications in North America. By far the easiest qualification route. :p

Virtually guaranteed to qualify at that rate.

Meanwhile, Croatian crew getting a DQ (most likely due to being overweight) is quite upsetting...

It depends on how crowded the Euro Cup and World Cup fields are. 68 points for a 20th place World Cup finish and 75 for a NA Cup win. You need to be at the top of the NA Cup to really cash in I think.

120 is awarded for a NA Cup win.

For reference, our 2-man crew qualified for Pyeongchang while counting some 13th places from the NA Cup (60 pts).

Oh, is it different for skeleton then. I was looking at last years results, and win only counted for 75 points.

For those needing to get their bobsleigh fix before the World Cup season gets underway.

    • Putting Canadian curling back on the map after two disappointing Olympics in a row    Very happy for Gallant and Tardi in particular, as you may know Gallant was in mixed doubles last week and really struggled, if he made half as many shots as he missed they probably would've been in contention for a medal. Glad he was able to block that out of his head and rebound in a big way, winning his first Olympic gold. For Tardi, after being able to get a game in as an alternate, the  emotion of just being able to represent Canada, you could tell how much it meant to him. He's hilarious on his Instagram page, but also might genuinely be one of the nicest curlers ever. Hopefully he gets his chance on his own team someday, still young in curling standards.
    • FINAL STANDING   Canada Brad Jacobs Marc Kennedy Brett Gallant Ben Hebert Tyler Tardi   Great Britain Bruce Mouat Grant Hardie Bobby Lammie Hammy McMillan Kyle Waddell   Switzerland Benoit Schwarz-van Berkel Yannick Schwaller Sven Michel Pablo Lachat-Couchepin Kim Schwaller   4 Norway 5 United States 6 Italy 7 Germany 8 Czechia 9 Sweden 10 China
    • Sounds like Keeley Hodkingson is not going to this. So it might be in general B list for England.
    • Now I see that China originally placed 3 in the medal table in 2022, but 2 years later they fell to 4 places behind the USA. And not because of any DSQ of their own, but because the USA won 1 gold medal more in team event in figure skating after Valieva's disqualification from Russia. Russia then lost 1 place and dropped to 3. No one remembers that now, so maybe 3rd, 4th, or 5th place really doesn't matter that much? Even in 2014, Russia won the medal table, but a few years later, they fell behind Norway after the series DSQ for Sochi 2014 and now basically no one remembers it. It's also true that there's much more competitions/disciplines now than some time before and basically just every top country is setting own records, without maybe a Canada. It may also be significant that there are no Russians and there have been over 30 medals on recently OG... Someone had to take over these medals and in 99% of cases they were the sport powers mentioned earlier: NOR, ITA, SUI, NED, FRA, GER, USA, etc.
    • It will be interesting to go back to 1st day and enjoy olympics again. I mean how many results will be same or different.
