Skateboarding Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Do you assume he wont be able to get to top 3 on his own?

he's not that used to this kind of competition that he just can't be good enough to beat the tour regulars without the help of biased judges (he's not even a skateboarding Park and/or Street specialist, he used to be good only on Vert, which is quite different from the other 2 disciplines in terms of required skills)...

if he's really capable of a top 3 at the world champs with no other competition contested in the last few years, then it would only mean that skateboarding doesn't have any decent strenght in depth and doesn't deserve at all to be included in the Olympic program, without even wasting time to speculate on all the other arguments against it...it would be just a question of talent involved in it)...

p.s. personally, I think he's overestimated also as a snowboarder and 2 of his 3 Olympic Gold medals were really gifted to him (Turin 2006 for sure...Pyeongchang 2018, I'm not fully convinced he should win, yet)...

A little bit old this video, but I've not seen it yet. So....

He hasn't participated in any competition so far. And the next World Championship here in Brazil in September is the last tournament of the first season of qualification events at Skate Park. If he doesn't get the podium at the World Championship next year, he'll have lost one opportunity to get points since the first season.

European Street Championships in Russia in October will count for Olympic qualification. It will be the 1st event of the 2nd Olympic qualifying season. World Skate sent out a press release stating so today.

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
