Big news for South Africa. After many, many attempts, Laurienne Dittmann finally achieved the minimum eligibility score of 66% (66.087% in Hamburg today). She needs one more such result and then South Africa will be able to field a dressage team.

Interesting how FEI still hasn't allocated the venue for Group F dressage qualification.

I guess they perhaps plan to award the quota based on rankings, since probably only South Africa would compete anyway. Palestine has two riders, but it is doubtful whether they can find the third.

If it was looking good for Latvia last week, then now it's looking seriously good.

Few days ago Neretnieks won Poznan Grand Prix, and this week he already added another 1st and 2nd place in Sopot. With all that he earned 260 points in just 5 days! Holy shit. :hyper:

  • 2 weeks later...

:CHN Huadong Sun apparently jumped clear in Strzegom, with not too many time penalties, but... He missed a jump along the way! Very unusual for this level, but perhaps not surprising given his experience.

Anyway, obviously he got eliminated from the event and can no longer fulfill the minimum requirements. Additionally, he has to wait a full month before he is allowed to make a new attempt on this horse.

And we have reached the mid-way point of the qualification period. Here are the updated individual qualification simulations for dressage and eventing...

DRESSAGE

Group A (2) - :DEN:IRL

Denmark remains the main favorite for team qualification at the European Championships in Rotterdam. Interestingly, this group only has 4 unqualified nations left, so if Ireland or Finland also qualify a team (it is possible), then Norway would qualify by default.

Group B (2) - :AUT:SUI

It was a strong June for Austria and Switzerland, who now replace France and Luxembourg in the provisional qualifying positions. It will be much harder for Luxembourg and Portugal than I anticipated, but I still believe they will make in the end. Belgium can be dangerous too.

Group C (2) - :UKR:BLR

Ukraine is all but safe, while Belarus moves into a qualifying position thanks to the Russian team qualification. It looks as though Belarus, Poland, Estonia and Slovakia will battle for the second spot.

Groups D/E (4) - :DOM:CAN:MEX:CHI

Canada will gain a team quota, no doubt, just like Brazil or Mexico (Brazil interestingly still doesn't have anyone ranked, so they may struggle with minimum requirements). This group has been a disappointment though. Dominican Republic is safe for an individual spot, but that's about it. Chile is holding a spot however their rider is nowhere near the minimum requirements at this point. Just like Brazil; Argentina, Bermuda and Ecuador still haven't entered a single qualification event...

Group F (2) - :RSA:MAR

South Africa should be able to qualify a team (provided Dittmann gets the second MER score). Palestine will move into a provisional qualification position when that happens.

Group G (2) - :SGP:NZL

While Singapore is leading the way, it very much looks as though Group G will have the same qualifiers as in Rio 2016 (New Zealand and South Korea).

Additional (1) - :FIN

Henri Ruoste of Finland is holding the spot, but it is all but certain that some Group B nation will get this place in the final analysis.

Detailed rankings - HERE.

EVENTING
Group A (2) - :NED:SWE

Netherlands and Sweden could both qualify through European Championships and/or Nations Cup. If that happens, then the Group A spots will be contested between Denmark and Finland.

Group B (2) - :SUI:BEL

Switzerland is almost a safe qualifier individually, but they have a chance for a team qualification as well. Once again, Group B should be the most competitive, with the likes of Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Austria and Spain battling for qualification.

Group C (2) - :CZE:RUS

Eastern European charge has started, so it may be hard for Czech Republic to keep their place. Czechia should still be able to qualify an additional spot if they can't handle Russia though.

Group D (2) - :USA:USA

It should change after the Pan Ams. These spots will likely remain unfilled.

Group E (2) - :PUR:ECU

Ecuador overtook Brazil in the latest simulation. This Group can be quite intriguing, especially if Brazil fails to qualify a team in Lima. Puerto Rican rider could put herself in a great position if she does well at the upcoming Rebecca Farm International.

Group F (2) - N/A N/A

Still nobody here. Both South Africa and Zimbabwe started comptitions, but failed to gain points. Zimbabwe will have its next attempt this weekend.

Group G (2) - :IND:HKG

Both India and Hong Kong need to complete a long format competition in order to meet the minimum requirements. If successful, they should look good for qualification (provided they don't get screwed by China and/or Thailand).

Additional (6) - :SWE:SUI:NED:AUT:ITA:RUS

Reallocation (+2) - :ITA:FIN

Not much to discuss among the additional/reallocated spots. A lot can still change here.

Detailed rankings - HERE.

    • The NFL are pushing had to develop flag football in Australia in hopes of getting it included in 2032. I hope they fail tbh.   Single gender sports fail the gender equality requirement so netball is out unless they can rapidly fix their gender problem. World Netball not so long ago was refusing utterly to sanction men's international netball or even support the growth of men's netball so they kind of sabotaged themselves and are only changing courses out of self interest because Brisbane was awarded the Olympics.   It doesn't even make sense to propose Aussie rules given how poor the participation is outside of Australia.
    • - Great Britain Team Size Prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2026 Milano Cortina   Ski Sports   Alpine Skiing  (4) - The qualification system is a bit confusing, but from what I gather the team is Guaranteed 2 quotas (one for each gender), and then more are given for rankings. I can only see 1 female qualifying, but the men's team is a bit stronger, and could improve with some juniors coming through. I would say a baseline of 3, with a max of 5, 6 if things really improve.  Cross Country Skiing  (3) - The men's team came 11th in the world cup last year, and with some good results could move up to top 10 which would give 3 quotas, The women's team is non existant.  Ski Jumping  (0) - Nope Nordic Combined  (0) - Nope Freestyle Skiing  (6) - Based on last year rankings, the athletes are ranked: M Moguls (26/30), M Ski Cross (26/32), M Halfpipe (33/25), M Slopestyle (39+40/30) W Moguls (23+42/30), W Halfpipe (3/25), W Big Air (5/30), W Slopestyle (19+22/30)  Barring Injury , thats 2 quotas on the women's side, and I would predict 4 more, with a max team of 7 or 8. Snowboarding  (2) - W Halfpipe (34/25) is the only unknown quota, as both Charlotte Bankes and Mia Brookes should qualify easily. Huw Nightlingale may get a spot for the Mixed Team snowboard cross but I don't know how it works. Biathlon  (0) - Nope Ski Mountaineering  (0) - Nope     Skating Sports   Speed Skating  (2) - Cornelius Kersten and Elia Smelding should qualify, although they both haven't competed this year. Short Track Speed Skating  (2) - A team of 5 went to the world but only a couple could really qualify Figure Skating  (4) - Fear and Gibson should qualify, and the pair team is ranked 16th in the world with 19 qualifiers.      Sleigh Sports   Luge  (0) - Nope Skeleton  (6) - A full team is certainly on the cards, but with only ranking points from the next season counting a lot could change Bobsleigh  (6) - Brad Hall and Co should qualify for both 2 and 4 man. I doubt any more will qualify from the mens side. Adele Nicholl on the womens should also qualify in both events     Team Sports   Curling  (12) - Anything but a full team would be a dissapointment Ice Hockey  (0) - The men were the only chance       Total Optimistic Prediction  -  (60) Total Pessimistic Prediction  - (32)   Total Realistic Prediction  -  (47)

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
