I honestly have no idea what the thinking is in the backrooms of national federations. And to be fair and balanced, I also have no idea what was communicated to the Irish riders by the selectors throughout the qualification period.

I think it's a mistake. According to their NOC, they will pick either Samy Colman or Boukaa El-Ghali for the final spot.
