Nope, South Africa will likely qualify. Brazil is not out of it either.

Controversy alert!

FEI made a change to the list of dressage qualifying events on October 31st update. As you can see HERE, they have removed the events which didn't have any 5* judges on the panel. These events no longer count for Olympic rankings, so for example :LUX Nicholas Wagner lost some points.

That is all fine and dandy. HOWEVER, they didn't do a very good job when removing such ineligible events. Ukraine hosted a whole bunch of events with no 5* judges, and yet these events were not removed (for now):

  • CDI-W Zhashkiv (1-3 March)
  • CDI-W Zhashkiv (8-10 March)
  • CDI-W Kiev (10-12 May)
  • CDI-W Kharkiv (13-15 September)

This inconsistency massively influences Olympic rankings. If these were removed, :UKR Inna Logutenkova stands to lose almost 500 points! :hairpull: Aaaand... Removing these events would put :SVK Michael Bugan into Olympic qualifcation position instead.

I am taking this to public if it doesn't get fixed in the upcoming days, come hell or high water.

No update from FEI.

I'm starting to wonder who to contact if this continues... :mumble: Michael Bugan? That would be weird, I've never attempted to contact an athlete before. Eurodressage? They love a good scandal. FEI? They may just ignore it. :p

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
