Chanu no news but theoretically has chance for bronze.

If she doesn't get injured or infected by covid 19 or does something stupid she'll win the gold by just lifting her current personal best. Papua New Guinea, Dominican Republic and Indonesia are expected to be her main rivals but she has a good lead over them.

We don't know who is going to win coin toss in China. :p I think with no Russia and no North Korea, China has big lead in 6 of the 7 weights (Taipei girl in 59kg being the lone exception).

And since Colombia will be banned due to 3+ positives , 55,64,76,87,87+ lifters have like 17-20kg lead over the 2nd best.

And in 49kg its 10kg approx.

Why aren't North Koreans participating in any sports events, even Olympic qualification events

Over covid 19 they may return by 2022 Asiad or 2023.

Interestingly ..... The inexplicable decision of north korea not to take part seems to increase the chances of

1. Mary kom in boxing ( the north korean was a gold medallist in the world championships )

2. Vinesh in wrestling .... The north korean is ranked 1

3. Of course chanu in weightlifting where the korean is ranked second above chanu

For Vinesh . Usa has try some thing new .

Sarah Hildebrandt won Olympics quota in 50kg ( not in Vinesh catagory)

Jacarra Winchester won quota in 53. She is 55kg World champion

Same for Quba .

If N.kor participate with one of PAk ot Mayu in her half and with Winchester , pang , Quba, Mattson .it can be tough
