Our tennis stars are losing steam as the Olympics inch closer :(

Our only genuine hope seems to be the mixed doubles and Paes and Sania (provided the AITA chooses them) should play together at the French Open and Wimbledon to get some good match practice. Paes and Bopanna should also start playing together on the circuit if at all they want themselves to have a chance at the Olympics. Strong egos cannot go with a great desire to medal for the country. These guys are being absolutely paradoxical.

Bopanna will be Sania's partner in mixed doubles due to 2 reasons:

1) For XD, the best 16 combined single/doubles ranking are considered & not like MD or WD where anyone in top 10 is assured a quota/team. Sania & Bopanna are in top 10 whereas Paes is not even in top 20.

2) Sania plays with Bopanna for Indian Aces in IPTL and has shown good chemistry between them

I do believe that Leander Paes is the best mixed doubles player we have right now. Due to his ageing body, he may not be as good in men's doubles but he plays mixed doubles absolutely brilliantly as can be seen in the recent results.

However, as you say if they don't have any chance of qualification, then there is no point of a debate and if Sania is going to play with Bopanna for the Olympics, she has to partner him at the French Open and Wimbledon. There is no winning partnership (unlike Paes who is going strong with Martina Hingis) that they need to break for this.

However, in the recent past, I read an interview of Paes where he was very optimistic about playing mixed doubles at the Olympics. His ranking at that point was still not good enough so why make such statements? Is there any other way he thinks he can partner Sania in the mixed doubles?

How many boxers to be expected in the olympics??

Coach Sandhu says 4 from the continental qualifiers and another 4 in the subsequent world qualifier.

My hopes from the ongoing tournament are on Shiva Thapa, Vikas Krishnan, MC Marykom and Devendro Singh.
