Extremely disappointed with Men's Archery team. They did really good at qualification and lost in both events so poorly. Not digestible.

Answer is needed from these archers please. If you are not of that world class level then its okay if you fail to qualify but if government is spending so much on you only because nation hopes from you, nation knows you are potential medal winners and you deliver absolutely nothing? Unacceptable! They are capable of winning an Olympic medal. Everybody knows it

If you recall, someone had quoted team official and told about India's decision to replace Rahul with Mangal on Monday evening itself. Also, Mangal had participated in the normal team event as well. So, once again nothing to do with today's condition.

In qualification, gap between Mangal and Rahul was 5 shots and Mangal had shot much better in 2nd series compared to 1st. So, maybe team thought that Mangal will bounce back. Also, its not like Rahul had a spectacular performance in qualification or Individual events.

THIS !!!

Cool down guys, it happens. Archery is a sport where performance on the day is very important. Luck plays a huge factor simply because every match is just so short.

Consider this - every archer shoots a whopping 72 arrows in the ranking round, used only to determine the draws, but in an actual team match, each archer shoots a maximum of just 8 arrows. 9 if it goes to the shootout. That means that through out the 4 rounds, every archer shoots a max of just 36 arrows...and even then, we have sets. Winner is not decided just by a sum of all arrows (India scored 2 points more than Malaysia i believe, including the shoot-out)

Thats why Archery is so unpredictable...with the exception of course of the unmatchable Koreans.

Also, does anyone have confirmation that the last shooter actually was Champia ??? Normally, Champia is the middle shooter...and had Rahul shot and lost, many would be complaining as to how Champia, our individual quota winner, was not selected. Despite his performance in ranking round, people would be saying that he's the most experienced and handles pressure the best (as demonstrated by his indiv quota) and thus he should have been selected

Some food for thought - other top teams to miss out include Mexico (who are assured a silver in this very world cup), Russia and Germany. And biggest of them all - the USA women's team.

So it was disappointing, but lets forget about it and move on. Does anybody have a link to the boxing scores or livestream ???

disastrous result. playing champia inspite of his form - what to say -this is how all Indian sports are run. So in archery we have actually taken a step backwards from London 2012.

Where's your optimism Partha??? Dont think its a step backwards yet, a medal at Rio from Deepika or the women's team or even Atanu would still make Rio much better than London...:)

India vs Australia... India lost 2-4...But q3 and  q4 India played like lion.. Happy with there performance inspite of the loss... Only if this hockey was from first quarter

Brilliant 4th Qtr, could have scored more goals, just went to sleep in the 2nd Qtr, which cost us the game. Anyway good positive performance, whoever is the opponent tomorrow, just need to play positive hockey with a lot of energy.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
