But Bol is only 21yo and has a much earlier start into stardom than Schippers. She can definitely dominate the European 400m scene during the next decade and who knows what she does in Tokyo? Will she enter both 400m hurdles and 400m flat?

I have to say I can't tell a difference between the Dutch women's relay other than Bol being the tallest. They all kinda look the same ;)

Things change way too quickly in sports to make predictions for a decade. She definitely has a shot at bronze in Tokyo in the 400 m hurdles. Wouldn’t make sense for her to also enter the 400.

I am always amazed to see how seriously Poland takes European championships. GB and Germany on the other hand ...

Athletics is a very popular sport here and the rise in 21st century started in those field events that are usually abandoned on TV and big media who only focus on sprints and track events. Other than 1980s we always had elite world class athletes winning gold medals in Olympics and World Championships. GB tries to stay true to their sprints & middle distance running but they never had a strong field presence save for some one-offs. And Germany has tailed off a lot in athletics as well though just like Poland you seem to do better in field events these days.

Sure, Germany is weaker now than 20 or more years ago, but not weaker than 10 or 15 years ago. Also Germany not sure what you mean with „Germany seems to do better in field events these days“. I don’t remember a time when Germany (not GDR) did better in track events.

Germany used to be the best 400m nation in Europe this side of GB and USSR/Russia. Poland still has a strong 400m team but Belgium and Netherlands seem to have overtaken Germany by miles. Also no sprinting power in Germany anymore, one silver from Kranz which is very poor by former standards.

Germany has definitely regressed in 400m/sprints/pole vault & high jump.

1) Sure, Germany has regressed in some events, but at the same time Germany has improved in other events (triple jump, men’s javelin, women’s distance running), this is just the way it goes.

2) It doesn’t make any sense to draw any conclusions from the results at the European indoor championships. The top 4 or 5 women didn’t even compete in the 60 m sprint (Lückenkemper, Mayer, Kwayie, Pinto) and in women’s 60 m hurdles Dutkiewicz and Roleder were missing.

    • many athletes didn't get their visa 2  Schengen , canada , usa ...do it all the time  it's a new strategy to increase the chance of medals
    • Four  (Duguma, Berha, Kalayu, Siyoum) got denied visas even though they competed in Toruń in Febraury  Must be some Schengen visa rules crap?
    • Yep, I actually think this Schwaller team is only just getting better every single year, and there’s not many viable options at third and fourth in the Swiss women’s curling scene, there’s only some good but not great players.   If Paetz and Tirinzoni both retire before the next quadrennial (likely for Tirinzoni, she said at the end of last year that the recent GSOC event would be her last) then Berset-Witschonke-Howald-Hurlimann is the best you can do and I don’t think the firepower is there. If Paetz keeps going, and it’s Witschoke-Howald-Hurlimann-Paetz then it’ll be interesting, but it’s also hard to predict.
    • The Canucks have started their tank this season and now we’re awful, so I’ll only be watching when the playoffs start  at least we get a guaranteed top 3 pick, but even that probably won’t go our way.   Fencing WC’s are interesting yep, if I can find a stream and if our top fencers are competing or make it to the R16 or further.    Speaking of basketball, I forgot about NBA
    • because of schedule , after 1 month of fasting , Things could be better for africans 2 weeks later
    • Always a 6 week lull between the end of the full Winter Sports season and the Summer Sports season gets going in early May.  OK, there is stuff going on, but not three or four things a weekend.
