Latvia won their 1st Winter EYOF gold medal

That was an awesome final :d

And he was 'lucky' (after being unlucky) to even be in the final! His pole broke in the semi with 50 meters or so to go and he fell from 2nd to 3rd, but his time was enough by 0.18 seconds to qualify anyway :d

Day 4 :SVK Summary

2nd medal  2nd bronze.

277168244_5240455905999678_8862431427956

Jakub Borguľa with 2 misses in the 2nd shooting finished in 3rd place and won the Bronze in the Boys Biathlon Individual. Among Girls Kristína Makovínyová with clean shooting ended in very nice 5th place.

5th Place is also the final standing of our girls Hockey team, after the loses to Nordic giants FIN and SWE in the preliminary group the girls ended the tournament with a win in the 5th place game 3-0 over Hungary.

Worth to mention also the new Free Program PB of Michaela Alexandra Filcová in the Girls Figure Skating which catapulted her from 11th after the Short Progra to the final 6th place.

The other results were not so memorable though, 9th place in the Alpine Skiing Mixed Parallel Team, 12th Marko Pilliar in Boys Figure Skating (lost 3 places from the Short program) Martin Józsa sadly will not repeat his final appearance from the Big Air, this time finished 17th in the Snowboarding Slopestyle qualification and no one advanced from the Cross-Country Sprint qualifications.

Final Day  :SVK Summary

10th place of Tamara Tokárová in Girls 1000m Short Track was the highlight In the final day of the competitions from Slovak view, 13th place in the mixed Biathlon relay and 16th in the Cross-Country Skiing Mixed relay, both our alpine skiers were eliminated in the parallel in the last of 16 round

So Team Slovakia will leave Vuokatti with 2 nice Bronze medals

(Tamara Tokárová - Short Track Girls 500m & Jakub Borguľa - Biathlon Boys Individual)

EYOF is obviously not entirely about medals, for many our youngs it was the very first experience with a international multi sport event and the majority of them did very well, considering the poor situation of Slovak sport overall in comparison to the rest of the continent.

:NED Deltrap also takes the 500m gold!

Wow :NED Zoë Deltrap absolutely dominated the shorttrack tournament! Three individual golds AND the mixed relay gold!

Other than Deltraps 4 gold medal haul, we took 2 bronze medals in boys shorttrack and girls snowboard big air.

Overall a great result for the Dutch team if you ask me!

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
