The gold medal in the women's 1000m was won by someone in the first five pairs 7 times. In 3 cases the gold came from pairs 6-10, and also 3 times from pairs 11-15. Two times the gold came from the second to last pair, and never did the gold come from the very last pair.

Yeah, best athletes used to go in the early heats, like VERY early heats. For whatever reason.

I'm hoping that Bowe/Bergsma will finally turn the table. 1000m is too short for the Dutch...

Bergsma wanted to leave the ice yesterday during training, but her coach (Jillert Anema) sent her back again and again and again until she had a time that was good enough for gold. In other words, Bergsma is empty and will end up 10th or something.

Another interesting fact, nobody from the last pair has managed to win a medal in the first 4 events.
