Wrestling UWW European Championships 2017

Great final day with 2 medals :clap:I knew Abdelslam had potential, but getting a gold in his first european champioship is amazing.  If he continues with the same dedication and enthusiasm he showed today, he will have a very bright future ahead of him. :yes Overall i'm very happy with our results, it was more than what i anticipated, it's a start in the right direction in the new Olympic cycle!

It's quite ironic to see Bulgaria having a foreign athlete bringing success. :d

what a debacle for Ukraine.

They have an interestingly bad trend in summer sports.

Beijing 2008 - 22 medals

London 2012 - 18 medals

Rio 2016 - 11 medals

well, in Wrestling they have a tradition in "buying" (better, taking advantage of their decisions...because I don't think they actually bought those athletes in the same way Azerbaijan, Qatar etc. - just to make an example - do) and not only in selling talents...

remember the lights of the Nazarian, Moureiko, Guri...all of them winning global medals for Bulgaria, but coming from different Countries...

by the way, we live in a global world, so to me it's quite normal to see athletes travelling to find better chances, like any other people do...

the only thing that sports officials should do is avoiding - no matter how - shameful situations like those of Azerbaijan, Turkey and/or the Gulf Countries (and Greece in the past, nowadays I don't think they are a "threat" in that sense anymore)...

Well, sadly our mens results aren't what they used to be. Bar some flash in the pan, in the last 7-8 years, it is increasingly rare that we have a finalist at a big championship. Our usual level has become the 1/4 or a few bronze medalists in lucky. By far our women are our stongest team. They usually have more medals from 8 categories than the men have from 16.

Now, now, tradition, those are 4 names for 20 years. Let's not get the list from this championship of countries which have, and how much, foreign wrestlers. There is hardly any european nation that doesn't have some foreign wrestlers.

this is really shame, I always hate it when athletes switch countries to win medals for somewhere else than their homeland. that guy Haithem is talented too. remember him had a close match with our legendary Sourian in his prime days.

with how things work in USA, they will surely give him chance to represent the USA in international competitions

Ofc. , and after Tarek's achievement today , this will encourage many other players to follow his foot prints , so i won't be surprised at all if he represents USA in the coming days

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
