Grass specialist or not, when you're leading 6-0, 4-1 and even get five matchpoints and you still lose the final (at home), that's really nothing else but a huge, huge choke :p

Of course it is.

Still, WTA has become surface-dependent in the last few years. Top players focus on their best surface and try to maximize their results there. Turnarounds like Sharapova going from 06 16 defeats on clay to win Roland Garros are almost impossible these days.

:RUS Liudmila Samsonova also claims her first WTA title in Berlin. That one was completely out of nowhere. WTA #106 and had to come through qualifying.

Up to #63 in the new rankings (but still too late for Wimbledon MD unless she gets a late WC).

Defending Eastbourne champion Karolina Pliskova is out in R1 after losing to Camila Giorgi :cheer: in three sets.

This means Pliskova is out of WTA Top 10 after 230 consecutive weeks.

And unless Kvitova goes far, there will be no Czech women in the top 10 for the first time since???

Probably May 2016 when Kvitova dropped out of Top 10 when she failed to defend the Madrid title. The currently ending Pliskova streak started in August 2016.

Not anymore. She dropped out of Top 10 after she skipped Australian Open. She tumbled down after not defending RG final points in May alltogether.
