Welp. These scores are awful, except for Iordache's uneven bars score. The other girls who also qualified for the Olympics, like Ibrahim, Mohamed, Daries, Varinska, Castro and Holbura, all had terrible scores. Very disappointing so far.

Apparently, :GBR Ellie Downie chose not to go to Tokyo. She was a contender for a vault medal and the current World bronze medalist on the apparatus. Her brother passed away last week. He was only 24. Becky Downie will still participate at the British trials in June.

Poor girls. They are so strong, each in her own way.

Ellie was apparently particularly close to him, it's utterly tragic. Not that she cares, or should care at the moment, but the next cycle is super short, with three worlds, a home commonwealths and a Paris Games in less than three years. If she is minded to continue, it's doable.

Beckie, on the other hand, has made the opposite choice for really good reasons too - unlike Ellie, there is no realistic chance of Beckie making Paris, so given the chance to do a late trial, this makes all sorts of sense.

apparently, more generally, GBR trials were not good, falls all over the place - lots of countries will have noticed this pattern - but right now it's looking like Gadirova, Gadirova, Morgan and either Kinsella or Beckie.

I’ll be attending the final two days of the US championships this week-end. Very excited to get the chance to see Simone Biles compete in person.

    • Regarding the swimming they have added the 800m for men and the 1500m for women so cutting numbers would be odd.
    • That quota I’ve been told by an athlete aiming to qualify who I know online.
    • Has the quota for Canada been offically confirmed anyway, or is that just a rumour? I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.
    • Some sports have qualification systems   3x3 basketball (wheelchair) Para-cycling Powerlifting Weightlifting
    • In the past few games, Canada (and other nations) was given an overall athlete quota which they then divided it through the various sports.
    • Whose decision was this, Team Canada's or the Organising committes?
