so there will be now final phase? :mumble:

It is not yet officially known, but the tournament is very long, and during the WL era we already knew at least the date of final six, so possibly this is only round Robin...

Not official, but I guess there's going to be a Final Six...the Round Robin will consist of 120 matches and FIVB says that there will be 130 matches in total.

Calm down, I'm sure Japan vs. South Korea is much more attractive than Slovenia vs. Belgium.  I'm confident these two teams together will win more than 5 sets. :pope:

Why does the women's Champions League start with a 2nd round? And does every team participate in that? I'm confused about the format, but interested since for the first time in 9 years there's a Dutch team in it :d

Well, we had round 1 in both men's and womens competition last year, so my guess this year there were too few teams to organise a proper first round (still why they call this round "round 2" instead of "round 1" is probably understable only to CEV officials "

Also, just like in football, the competition format is open, so each european country can send at least one team, national champions or Cup winners to participate in the qualification, with better countries having more slots available and starting competition at later level. That is theory, the truth is nobody wants to compete for the ridiculous price of 50.000 Euro for the champions :(

Well, but all the teams in the competition will play in this 2nd round that started today? Or do the winners of this 2nd round advance to the 3rd, and the winners of those go to the group stage? Or is there no group stage? It's annoying that there's no English wiki page :p

Yes, the winners of Round 2 advance to Round 3 and then winners of Round 3 qualify to the group stage where they will be drawn into 4 groups with 4 teams each.

So:

- 12 teams in round 2

- 8 teams in round 3 (6 round 2 winners + Vafikbank and Enisej, which seems odd, because why not last year's runner-up Conegliano?)

That gives four round 3 winners....the other 12 teams for the group stage are prequalified? Then again, why would 12 teams be prequalified, but both finalists of last year have to play qualifications? Or is that only due to their position in the national leagues? :p

Only 4 teams qualify to the Group Stage, the rest of the places is taken by the teams from the best ranked leagues (http://www.volleyball.ch/fileadmin/user_uploads/manually_uploads_via_webtool/EC_RANKING.pdf).
There is no rule that says the reigning champions are pre-qualified. If they won't end season in their National League that would guarantee them a place at least in the qualifying round, they will be absent from the Champions League.

    • I`m a traditionalist and I like alpine skiing competitions in the morning hours, illuminated by the sun In ski jumping this is practically non-existentthis in contrast the early 21st century (It's nice that at least there's Planica at the end of every season). There are also traditional competitions under artificial lights, like in Schladming or Madonna di Campiglio. There's no need to do the same thing everywhere as in ski jumping. Alpine skiing finals are rarely super exciting, because usually everything is clear and the skiers are tired from the long season. Finals were often canceled, so this year it was okay for me. If someone wanted a spectacle, that's what the Olympics Games or the World Cup in Kitzbuchel.

    • Baffling scheduling again. It's like FIS want to drive people away.    It's the Finals, on paper your big conclusion to the season, yet it feels like "let's get this over with". Just compare how the ATP treat their finals with this.   Ok, you want to have the GS & SL on Tuesday/Wednesday. That's fine, i've been advocating for more mid-week starts to begin with. But why, oh why do you have them in the middle of the day, on a work week.  Why aren't you having them in the evening, in prime time, when people are off work. Make it a big special event, which people want to visit and not during the day in front of a 100 fans. It's not that hard to choose a place with some floodlights.     And even this week we don't have Champion League football, so the night is free from big competition. Perfect opportunity to have alpine skiing on TV right now, but noooo.
