Cavendish abandoned the tour.

Sagan is now 177 points ahead of the second (Kittel) in the green jersey battle with one sprint stage 3 mountains and 1 time trial remaining

As you know I'm a big fan of Sagan like almost everyone else, but I really hope this points system gets changed in some way. Not "to fight against Sagan", but because certain things are just weird. If a stage is a mountaineous stage, you get much less points for winning the stage (logical), but it's unbelievably strange that the number of points for the intermediate sprints stay the same...

For example in a flat stage you get 50 points for winning the stage and 20 for winning the intermediate sprint.

In a mountain stage you get 20 points for winning the stage...but still 20 for winning the intermediate sprint..that makes no sense and I hope that gets changed as soon as possible.

If they want to make differences between the stages in terms of points, that's great I think, but then they should just cancel the intermediate sprints in mountain stages :)

i understand your view, but you know that its mainly the intermediate sprints in the mountains stages which are the Sagan strongest card and which make the difference :d

but yes, well, you know that they changed the rules because Sagan won easily the green two years in arow, so suddenly they made 50-30-20 points system in sprint arrival, just to make the competition harder and as they say more interesting, (which is very unfair, if you finish third you are already 30 points behind, so it´s why there need also the intermediate sprints in the "lumpy" stages :d to give all kind of racers more or less the same chances.

but sure, I would more like if they returned back to the previous system. but no chance for that,:( now I´m really wonder what they will invent for the next seasons, maybe 100 points for the flat stages winner and 50 for the second ;)

Personally I would go for 0 points in mountain stages (there are mountain points for that), a few points in hilly stages and for flat stages something like 25-20-18-etc (a bit like in MotoGP or Formula 1). And no intermediate sprints, they're useless :p

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
