Road to LA 2028 Olympics - Qualification Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

In this thread we can simulate & discuss team :IND qualification scenario in each sport & can track road to LA 2028 qualifiers in each sports for every :IND athlete.

With the inclusion of Cricket & Squash, let's hope we can send our biggest contingent ever to the games.

Our highest ever was in Tokyo - 121 athletes in 18 sports. Hopefully we can cross it in 2028 :pope:

With the official qualification dossier out for most sports , we can now understand the pathway & qualification scenario in each sport.

I am sharing a link with official qualification documents for each sport approved by IOC & respective sport federations.

Hi @nitinsanker, @Indian Sports fan, @Fly_like_a_don, @Prashanth, @Roamingrover86 @tirtha22 @Vaibhav Manocha @Vaibhav (minchu) @sanjaydas @rohan sharma  @Dolby @Prakash @Sanjib @Shravan Kumar

With most of the sports' qualification documents released below is my qualification simulation based on rankings and current performances only for all NOC and events. Hope to hear your views as well

Here are few revisions from my previous predictions

Equestrian
Anush Ag
arwalla doesn't qualify but we have a chance of qualifying an Eventing Team of Ashish Limaye, Fouaad Mirza and Shashank Singh as they are second best set of riders from Group G. (Australia qualifes in WC quota)

Tennis

Highly Optimistic quota of Doubles pair of Yuki Bhambri and Rohan Bopanna who have combined ranking of 89

Table Tennis

Should qualify a Mixed Team which guarantees two singles qualification in both genders. Should qualify a doubles pair in Men, Women and Mixed

Our key sports like Cricket, Boxing and Athletics haven't released qualification documents yet

Summary - We are 24th ranked in terms of number of quotas across 16 sports and 4th highest in Asia behind :CHN:JPN:KOR

When do you expect Cricket to announce the qualification pathway. I understand it could be ranking based qualification with perhaps one final qualifying tournament awarding 1 slot.
 1 host quota

4 quotas from world rankings but limited to 1 NOC for each continent ( Asia, Africa, Europe & Oceania) Americas will have the host quota

The final qualifying tournament will allow other top nations who couldn’t qualify via rankings to fight for that 1 slot.

Do you think IOC will approve this format prepared by ICC?

Boxing qualification document will take time as the international federation just got acknowledgement from IOC and surely we will see an increase in member state affiliation in the federation . Powerhouse countries like :KAZ :UZB are yet to officially join world boxing .

Athletics will possible release their time standards and qualification period later this year as they did for Paris.

What I have read is that qualification will be decided by geographical rankings and 1 spot coming from a Global qualifier. But I would prefer it to be similar to Baseball
1 - Host Nation
2 - Asia Cup

3 - Europe / Africa

4 - Oceania

5 - Americas

6 - Global qualifier

Regarding boxing, its been reported that the new federation itself is in existential crisis
