Im always intereted to see the prospects of our cross Tasman neighbours.

The traditional sports the NZ excel in seem to be their brightest chances

10 Gold medals may not be out of the Question!

Valerie Adams throws seasons best and 2nd best throw this year of 20.19m at meet in Budapest finishing 1st. The field included two main rivals Schwanitz and Carter. Gong who has thrown the farthest of 20.43m wasn't there again. But the upwards trend of Adams bodes well fingers crossed.

An OK Olympics for us. Rowing and Cycling the obvious disappointments expected a lot more. On the other hand the Sailors have been the standouts. I can't really see many other medal opportunities apart from a bronze medal match for our Hockey Women. But can't see them winning since they have a history of choking. So we've surpassed our national committees target of 14 medals so far. 8 4ths and quite a lot of missed opportunities. Not many golds this time. Other than that some sports were a huge disappointment, some exceeded expectations.

So we end the Olympic campaign with 18 medals. 4G 9S 5B. 4 more than what the NZOC forecast. Most medals we have secured. 9 4ths and 40 all up in the top 8. Overall a success but we were down golds this Olympics from London. Rowing and Cycling Mens 7's underperformed. Whereas Sailing, Athletics, Canoeing over performed. A lot of surprise medals though. 8/10 for me.

After Albertville and year 1992, NZ finally with medal at the Winter Olympics!!!

After Peter Michael's great performances in speed skating and 4th place in 5000m race and well as 4th place in men's team pursuit, Nico Porteous (freestyle skiing, halfpipe) and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (snowboarding) won bronze medals ending New Zealand's 26-year-drought.

Summary of the games coming soon :)

    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

    • impossible, there are not enough venues in both towns and I mean, Milan doesn't have an Olympic Stadium, a decent Tennis Complex and a big Swimming Complex (not to mention the sea) Rome, on the other hand, doesn't have a Rowing/Canoeing Basin nor arenas and stadiums for the team sports beyond football and rugby there's no chance that all those venues would be built from scratch, meanwhile if we use both cities we already have almost everything we need, especially the most expensive and controversial sites
