I always found it hilarious on how people are counting on predictions :p

The Olympic Games are so specific that 7 out of 10 times an upset occur. Sport is not an exact science, and especially under the five rings. I saw so many upsets happening to obvious and prediction sites/bookmakers "certain" winners but yet people still tend to search them lol

All this require that all planets will align and everything will works exactly as it is wished,.. but yeah, sorry this just can not statistically happen :p

Oh man how I heard Shifffrin going to destroy everything in Beijing, 150% safe 2 golds I even read somewhere

For me, predictions aren't to assume who will win each event, it's more to have a discussion about the leaders in each one. Especially the sports I don't really follow, to know who are the favourites. Of course nothing ever goes to plan, that's why we love sports. I just use a good prediction as a guide.

This would also mark just the third time Canada has reached double-digit golds at the Winter Olympics. It won 11 in 2018 and 14 in 2010 in Vancouver

Just want to point out that Canada also got 10 golds in 2014 (so this would be the 4th time they'd hit double-digit golds).

For shame, CBC.

23 Medals

Freestyle Skiing - 7

Short Track - 7

Speed Skating - 3

Curling/Ice Hockey - 3

Others - 3

I hope not that would be an awful haul :p

I'd done my final revisions on my prediction spreadsheets.. and I'm sticking with 26 for Canada.

Take it to the bank! (But don't sign anything)

I prefer to do mine like this guy (https://app.podiumsport.it/) does his "Projected Medals" as probability based rather than straight medal picking... all things being equal, conversion rates should be about the same and the outliers come out in the wash. Unfortunately most people just like medal picking, and think any other approach is weird

This is an awesome site for medal projections thanks for sharing ;)

I hope we can improve on Beijing with 27-28, but I'd be more than happy with 26 with the injuries.

66% chance for a medal in moguls seems low though...

Men's relay being 5th in short track, and Clarke only having a 0.5% chance at a medal also seem off

Why is ski mountaineering there, we didn't even qualify anyone :p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
