Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Ceremonies

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this was already known, but in case it wasn't: there won't be 1 'opening ceremony'

There will be 4 (or 5) separate ones on the venues, which on TV will be made to look like one. So not really a Parade of Nations and such, just 4-5 shows which are merged into one. Not really a big deal for the average viewer, but very sad for many athletes who this way won't really get to experience the real Olympic opening ceremony vibes :(

Interesting...that's the first I've heard of this.  I think there was talk of 2 ceremonies at LA28...not sure of the current status of that one.

My dream bucket list item is to attend an Opening Ceremony, but I would want it to be one that was staged all at one location (mostly because I want to be able to see everything in person if I'm paying that much).

If it is multiple sites, it seems it will be like Paris in that it's better for the viewers at home, not those in person.

Not sure how this will work with some countries with one athlete. Will they send someone to the 'main' stadium to enter? Otherwise it ruins the parade of nations.

I think the secondary sites will only have the Nations which actually take part in the disciplines scheduled out there, meanwhile all the delegations will be represented in Milan

all that with the TV directors adjusting the pictures to let the Parade flow as if it was all in a single location

I think it's a good idea to give all the athletes of the sports located in the mountain clusters the chance to have something like a true Parade of Nations, even if they can't be at the main one because of the distance from the various places

I don't know if it will work well, but it might prove to be a good idea...let's hope no major mistakes are made to set up such a complicated task

It seems to be an expanded edition of what Paris 2024 did with the surfers out in Tahiti...they still get to (kind of) be part of the ceremony, while not requiring that they all be at the same place.

It will be interesting to see delegations that are split between locations, especially since there will only be one flag (though I'm sure there will be some marker/designation, probably just with a volunteer).

Have no fear; even countries with only one athlete will have enough relatives of the Minister of Sport to keep many parades covered.

And I am sure a lot more athletes can go to a 20 minute ceremony rather than one that takes three hours, security checks, bus travel etc etc.

    • It appears tickets are starting at $28 for the preliminary round events as when I went to verify my account you could see some of the prices under the exit banner, I believe this is already more expensive than the Paris tickets.
