Freestyle Skiing FIS World Championships 2025

No medals today for Italy and I`m not surprised. I don`t believe that we will suddenly become a super power in freestyle. It is very naive. At the right moment Switzerland or Canada will always be better. The whole winter season for us is weak - most likely we will not even win those 15 medals, at all.

That's objectively false. If all you care is the number of medals at the WCh (why? they are not even that much more important than World Cups), and all the rest of the year is worth nothing, you should really pick another country to support -the Italian system is not, and hopefully will never be, based only on that. To say that there has not been any progress since 2018 in this thread (freestyle skiing being the biggest example of a huge progress) is quite something.

After today's 4th place for Tabanelli, we now have 16x 4/5th places in Olympic events this winter season

...

because it was the same in the summer.

that means that, like the whole season suggested, we will have a lot of medal chances next year. In the summer it was the opposite - many World Champions and medalist who later came short at the Olympics. Being third or fourth today will hardly change anything about what can happen in 2026. I much prefer having a lot of consistent podium finishers in the World Cups week after week.

I mean the total number of medals: we are currently at the level of 12 medals + maybe we will get to another 1-2 (Tabanelli in Big Air and Figure Skating), but it is still the maximum level of Salt Lake City 2002: 14 medals, where there was much less competition than now. Yes, it`s definietly better than in that dark period: 2010-2014, but it isn`t a any revelation. For me, 15 medals, it should be the minimum and even that will not be. I just think that we deserve more, that's all.

Gold- :SUI Ryan Regez

Silver- :GER Tobias Mueller

Bronze- :JPN Ryo Sugai

Surprise silver for Mueller.

Some race for Sugai!  Fell at the second jump, lost his ski, must have put it back on and finished the course a couple of minutes behind everyone else.  Went to the judging, Duplesis-Kergomard is :redcard: and he finds out he's got the bronze medal!    So the moral of the story children, is never give up!

Small thing, but I hate it when users quote my replies because of the notifications, next time can you share your thoughts as a separate reply? Thanks! :d

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
