Eitrem should have got a DSQ on Friday for crossing the line and destroying the photocell with time. I didn't see anything unusual about Ghiotto today run.

Ghiotto did the same as Eitrem, but way more often (just not destroying the timing thing, but it's not like what you did is worse if you hit the timing thing). They should either both be DQ'ed or both not be DQ'ed, personally I am definitely in favour of both not being DQ'ed (as is the case).

Ghiotto was a DSQ in 2023 for not pass Eitrem in the last World Cup and he lost the all overall classification in long distances. At that time, it was enough for him to finish calmly in 6, because Roest had given up the competition. Ghiotto is quite sensitive mentally and it took hard. If he got DSQ today, he would have a really hard time all summer.

And who wanted to file a protest? Poland or the Netherlands? These two countries were the most interested, because for the Czech Republic silver or bronze didn't make much difference (especially since Marchetto and Petr Novak are quite close in and out of competition).

It's a bit of a disappointment for me. I thought that it was more the Netherlands that wanted a medal for Bergsma. In any case, it was good that the protest was rejected.

I have only heard Poland went to the judges about it.

Very unpleasant action and it's a shame that they are making enemies and all the more respect for the Netherlands - I thought that having the greatest influence in the federation, they might want to win a medal for Bergsma at the green table.

a bunch of unfair morons that don't even know the rules :bones: :hairpull:

from the ISU Technical Rulebook:

Rule 254.8

The following situations will not lead to a disqualification in accordance with paragraph 3 above:

a) If a Competitor does not keep within the inner lane in the curve or when exiting the curve towards the finishing straight and therefore crosses the line to the outer lane, the Competitor will not be disqualified if returning immediately to the inner lane.

When exiting the curve, the return to the inner lane must in any case have taken place before the first of the lines defining the 1000m finish on a standard 400m track.

(...)

so, unless there's some kind of impeding of the opposing skater, if someone just skate the inner curve wide and gets back within the 1000m lines, there's no room for any kind of punishment

neither Eitrem Yesterday nor Ghiotto Today did anything wrong (otherwise almost every 500m skater should be DQed when skating the final stint in the inner lane, as they just can't stay in because of the G force)

You are Russian, so maybe you know what will happen to an athlete in Russia if he/she doesn`t publicly support the war with Ukraine (in the sense that he/she will criticize her, for example, in the media in the West)?

Expand

there are two kind of athletes - those who stay in Russia and those who compete abroad only like tennis players and NHL players.

domestic athletes didn't say any word, they are very quiet and never speak about politics, so it was easy to shut them. there was a case of Violetta and Serger Bidas who moved to USA and they were claimed like traitors, but that's all. I don't know any athletes who were punished while they stay in the country, although there are huge lists of punished writers, artists etc

althletes abroad for some reason are not punished. those like Daria Kasatkina or Nikita Zadorov who spoke publicly on YouTube are still mentioned in news like athletes to be proud of.

but I guess if anyone will speak in Western media, that will be a disaster for them, they won't return back

Bring back the 1991 borders
