What a run from Hugo Calderano to win the ITTF World Cup, beating #3 Harimoto Tomokazu, #2 Wang Chuqin and #1 Lin Shidong in a run!!!

Does anyone know by the way, how and if Fan Zhendong can still participate in tournaments without ranking? Or if he's still playing in China?

:BRA Bruna Takahashi/Hugo Calderano are in the China Smash mixed doubles semifinals :yes. This is the first major result for the duo, who have been making incredible progress this year.

Bruna herself is also improving a lot in the women's singles. These next few years look to be very exciting for our table tennis.

Wang Chuqin :CHN completes a triple crown at the China Smash, winning MS, MD, and XD.  An impressive feat!  Also, congrats to Felix Lebrun :FRA for reaching the finals of MS, taking out #2 Lin Shidong :CHN.  Unfortunately, Wang Chuqin was just too much, taking out Felix 4-0 in the finals.

On the women's side, Wang Manyu :CHN took down Sun Yingsha (aka Shasha) :CHN to take the crown for WS.  It's so interesting hearing an all-China crowd cheer so heavily for one person but not the other.  (They looooove their Shasha.)  I wonder what it would be like for Wang not hearing as many cheers, though you're representing the same country.

And though the Chinese fans might have wanted a different WS champion, Team :CHN takes all 5 finals in this (and in fact, only in MS and WD was there a non-Chinese opponent).

WTT Champions Montpellier 2025 - Only 3 Chinese men in the MS competition (and only one of them seeded)...but they all go out in the R32!

Additionally, the #1 and #2 seeded women, who are from :CHN , also went down!  There's still a possibility of an all :CHN final because the two Chinese women left are in opposite sides of the bracket (seeded 3 and 6), but we'll see.

China didn't send their A-team here for sure.

    • I will do my best to organise a pairs competition also involving nations from the 4 teams that are eliminated in the first half of the team competition along with the lowest ranked individual nations at the halfway point (end of session 2) to form 8 pairs. Pairs will be balanced so that the highest ranked nation in the competition will be paired with the lowest ranked nation, second highest with the second lowest and so on. All of that will be based on the individual ranking at the halfway point.   This way every nation will have at least interest in some event until the end of the 3rd session.   I will probably base it closely on @mrv86‘s proposed rules, and have sprints every 3 rounds of votes. The pairs with most medals from those 3 rounds get the points along with an extra bonus for medal and points doubles.   I do only have 1 day to organise this now so I can’t promise anything though.

    • The two-woman quota is based upon the "combined" ranking. The 6 best monobob + 6 best 2-woman results are taken into account at the moment (7 once this week's WC race has been raced).  Weiszewski competed in Europe Cup yesterday in the monobob, finishing 2nd, which gave her 110 points. This was her 7th monobob race, so this result replaced her worst (80 points), helping her leapfrog Cernanska by 8 points. At this point I guess she's in a better spot, as she's got the same room for improvement in the two-woman today, while Cernanska probably won't compete that well in the WC.
