GB Aquatics selection policy for next year's European Championships has been published.

Ben Proud will be the only athlete pre-selected as medalist from Singapore.

The maximum team size has gone up to 40 - I think this is the largest team size we've seen for a few years. In the selection policy for the 2022 Europeans the team size was set to 35.

Unfortunately, they seem to have maintained the requirement that the athletes achieve the qualification time in the final of the British Champs in April.

The Euro team composition will likely be influenced by the CG teams, as in 22. Like in 22, the two champs are only a couple of weeks apart, with the CGs coming first again.

The British Champs will also be the primary qualification event for multiple of the home nations to get swimmers to the CGs, so should be a competitive meet. I'm fairly certain that Wales and Scotland will preselect some of their stars for the CGs, but if those swimmers want a European slot as well, they will still have to turn up and perform at the British Champs.

The times are generally slightly down on the times required for the WCs this year, as you would expect for a Euros. Obviously, the one big change is that we now have the 50m stroke events getting a Q method of their own to start preparing athletes ahead of LA28.

The commonwealth team will be smaller than in 2022 - 28 compared to 34 - but I'd still expect to see a lot of the top stars doubling up

Well, that's the England team size! The amount of doubling will also depend on what the likes of Richards and Scott etc want to do as well. You would imagine the Scots in particular will be more keen on a decent showing in the CGs than others might! From memory Duncan skipped the Euros in 2022 after doing the CGs.

2022 also had worlds as well, didn't it? A bit like the athletics there were some trebles for swimmers that year.

Solid start to the European Short Course Championships.

Gold for Jack McMillan in the 400m Freestyle in 3:36.33 whilst Duncan Scott takes 7th.

Angharad Evens qualified for the final of the 100m Breaststroke in 3rd overall with a time of 1:03.28.

Disappointment for Filip Nowacki as he failed to progress to the final - his semi-final time of 57.36 was only enough for 12th overall.

Katie Shanahan is the 2nd quickest qualifier for the final of 200m backstroke with time of 2:03.73.

Luke Greenbank is 3rd quickest qualifier for the men's 200m backstroke with a 1:49.37 - Jake Skerry is first reserve for the final after finishing 9th overall with a time of 1:51.59.

Katie Shanahan takes the silver in 200m backstroke in a time of 2:02.79 but there was disappointment for Luke Greenbank int he men's equivalent as he missed the podium by 0.05 seconds.

There's potential for 2 medals in the women's 200m Freestyle - Freya Colbert is fastest qualifier for the final in 1:51.94 and good to see Freya Anderson back to form as she qualifies for the final in 4th with a 1:53.69.

In the men's 200m Freestyle, GB had the top 3 qualifiers from the heats which meant that Matt Richards ultimately missed out on progressing. In today's semis, Duncan Scott was the fastest qualifier for the final in 1:41.56 with Jack McMillan in 3rd with 1:41.69.

Angharad Evans finished 6th in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:04.40
