I've given you two other names and we will keep an eye on this situation. There are some sources in Italy, who talk, that if Turkey does the same again, other strong countries will form a coalition to oppose it: Italy, Poland, Brazil, etc. Time will tell, what happens next.

as far as I remember, there was a rule established after Croatia basically naturalized half the Russian team many years ago that limited the number of foreign players to 1 per team (like in Basketball)

is it still in place?

otherwise, it should be reinstated as soon as possible

I don`t think so... They had Barbara Jelic- Ruzic, who was born in former Yugoslavia-  they strong leader in attack at that time. They may have naturalized someone, but certainly not the entire team. In the 1990s, the coach of Russia was Nikolaj Karpol, who was controversial and kicked out many good players from the team, who later played in other countries: Turkiye, Croatia, France, etc.

In my opinion, if it's determined that Antropova, for example, hasn't played in any Russian National Team (junior/senior), Italy could still naturalize another one player and allow them to play together in the same squad. This has been the case until now, but there have been some changes to the regulations. I'm not sure, but more and more people are saying that Türkiye is planning further transfers from Eastern Europe and Cuba.

well, in 1997, for instance, they had Cebukina, Sydorenko and, above all, Kirillova

I mean, half of the Soviet team winning the 1988 Olympics and many other world/european tournaments

after that, FIVB established that rule, but I don't know if and how it's changed through the years

I hope they will get back to that

Marco Fantasia said during the ITA-Cuba match that Turkey is trying to bring the 16-year-old girls from Cuba to their country and Cuba is trying to block it, but without the help of the FIVB and other countries it will be difficult because Turkey has a lot of money and influence in the volleyball community.

obviously you need the rules to make it impossible, I mean, at least playing together with Vargas (or another foreign born player)

if the girl wants to escape from Cuba, sooner than later she'll do it, this is a safe bet

but at least I hope they establish a rule like the old one and force Turkey (or any other Nation) to choose just 1 imported player at a time

Ok, but if Juantorena played for Ita, another player from Cuba or another country outside Italy couldn't play there at the same time, if he played for another National Team earlier. And now Turkey is trying to circumvent this and turn their National Team into a second club, bringing in whoever they want for money. It's similar in other sports: there was news recently that they acquired several Olympic and World Championship medalists from Jamaica in Athletics with a view to 2028. Erdogan pays and expects medals :)

individual sports are different, they always follow the IOC's 3-year rule and stop, because otherwise you would go against their right to earn their money (there's no club activity which could give you more money than NT's, in fact they can immediately take part into commercial meets in any case)

in team sports, you can simply stop them from playing all together for the NT if you want

Yes, Cuba's current coach, Luizomar de Moura, said that Turkey recently even picked up a 16-year-old girl and took her and her family to Turkey for the purpose of naturalizing her in the future.

I know other countries have already naturalized volleyball players, including Brazil, but at least in this case, we didn't offer any money to Leal, much less our federation is looking for talent to naturalize. It's becoming a club.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
