GB lost in the QF but then won their ranking matches to finish 5th overall, the beat italy twice in this tournament but were outclassed by austria in the QFs

the euro flag tournament is next month so will be a better yardstick of how we fair overall against europe, im going to assume being a 6 team touney only one spot may go to europe so we have a bit of a gao to close, especially defensivly

I'd like to think with it only being six teams and to ensure quality they will combine continents together - i.e. Europe and Africa, North and South America, Asia and Oceania.

Filip's 200m time from the Euro Jnrs is super impressive - it would have placed him 5th in Singapore this week.

Pah, shows what I know. Filip's time at the Euro Jnrs is nothing.

Now his time at the World Jnrs...that's something to get excited by :d

(For those that don't follow swimming, he today won the Jnr 200m breaststroke WC in a time that would have won the SENIOR WC as well this year).

Sigh.....

Maybe as an Englishman I'm biased, but I cannot see how entering an Olympic football tournament once every 4 years will affect the home nations independence in the eyes of FIFA/UEFA. Rugby manages it with the lions, why can't football?

Even the individual cricket  teams seems to be open to it, even if it isn't fully confirmed yet I don't think.

I've lost hope in us ever having a football team in olympics again.

It was never likely that the BOA were going to get a positive embrace of Team GB football team from the rest of the Home Nations - the best they could hope for was that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland wouldn't go nuclear with their objections - essentially saying that they won't actively stand in England's way, but they won't be part of it.

Whilst I don't think this story hugely changes the dynamic of the attempt to get a Team GB football team, unfortunately it was never likely that BOA could make it happen within the space of 1 Olympic cycle.

Do we know how the process would work in Squash qualification?, for example Makin & El-Shorbagy brothers do they need to participate under team GB flag or they can still play under the country flag but they will qualify as part of team GB?

Both of the El-Shorbagy brothers compete under :ENG flag so would be eligible to compete for :GBR at the Olympics if they qualify. The same thing happens in badminton where the athletes compete under the home nation flags but earn the qualifying spots for :GBR
