Jordan Stolz proves he is human.  Falls in the opening 100m of the 1000m Olympic Trials.  (But he was pre-qualified, and he still finished 3rd overall.)

"Falls in the opening 100m [...] and still finished 3rd". He's definitely not human

He also apparently hasn't been feeling well.  The rules state he had to start the race, so after a disappointing (but still 1st place) 500m today, he only started the 1500m soon after and then DNFed.

:CAN is a super serious speed skating country, which means we have our own matrix too!

The women's matrix has been fully filled out, and we now pretty much know the eight women who will be named to the team. The men's matrix still has a couple question marks (who will be the second starter in the mass start, and assuming it's a new name whether the 3rd 500m spot or the 2nd 1500m spot will have priority).

The USA just finished our trials.  We're using 13 out of its 14 allowed slots, per my count.  Not sure what implication this have for other nations.  We're using 7 men and 6 women (but we are filling up all the slots per discipline that we're allotted, so probably other nations won't be affected).

This could have implications towards the "164 entered athletes" limit. If this standard is not reached then quotas will be de-allocated, starting with the 500m and upwards.

Second to last column is the maximum number of athletes NOC can enter, last column is the actual number they entered or (will enter) in my opinion.

So if I'm correct in my assumptions and in the best case scenario 160 skaters will get a spot. No deallocation needed. This includes :POR rejecting their wMS quota as Jessica Rodrigues doesn't meet the time criterion, same for :DEN Due Schmidt in the mMS. With Portugal out the last MS quota would be reallocated to :FRA opening the door for a second French women quota.

In the "worst case" it would amount to 174, which would be problematic.

The :CAN Olympic team will be as followed: Ted-Jan Bloemen, Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu, Daniel Hall, Laurent Dubreuil, Anders Johnson, David La Rue and Cédrick Brunet on the men's side, Isabelle Weidemann, Valérie Maltais, Laura Hall, Ivanie Blondin, Béatrice Lamarche, Rose Laliberté-Roy, Carolina Hiller-Donnelly and Brooklyn McDougall on the women's side.

There was, but only Hall and La Rue were eligible for the spot :(

Italy will field 9 people (assuming Rossi does not make it to the mass event as the 2nd person): 6 men and 3 women.

Are you sure of that ? She could be fielded as starter for the mass-start and Lollobrigida would then receive an additional starting spot, as Italy/Rossi is in the reserve list. On the other hand maybe there's a chance Pergher will start both 500 and 1000 and Vigl wouldn't get a spot, though the latter has a slight edge this year over 1km.

On the men's side 6 is indeed likely. I guess Rosanelli or Bosa (500), Di Stefano (1000, 1500, MS, TP), Ghiotto (5000, 10000, TP), Malfatti (5000, TP), Lorello (5000, 10000, TP), Giovannini (MS, TP).

    • Not in modern times (believe it has happened back in the 19th century). The Social Democrats were rather close in the mid-30s, but generally it's been the Social Democrats as the largest getting challenged by either Venstre (the old, liberal party) or the Conservatives (though their latest peak was in the 80s). Keep in mind that most Danish governments have been minority governments. The latest government (well, it's still the government until the new one is formed) was the first one since the early 90s and only the 5th since the Second World War.
