Team GB Daily: Day 8

Recommended Posts

Men's medley qualify comfortably enough, although are probably a fly swimmer away from a medal.

Women miss out. Disappointing but not surprising. Both Back and Fly are just not there right now, so it was always going to be an uphill battle.

Hester puts in a 76-something. Barring a disaster for Fry and a miracle last round from the Dutch, that's probably a medal sorted. Colour remains to be determined.

That's a disappointing score from Hester. GB probably had a chance of silver but they needed Hester to step up and post a score in the 77-78 range. But on the upside, they have a 10 point lead over the Netherlands so bronze looks safe.

What a ridiculous way to run a series, punish number one seed by not having them race all day and not learn the conditions of the day

To be honest it was entirely predictable. It's happened multiple times that Wilson is able to dominate the opening fleet racing series but she struggles in the head to head format.

I mean, she guaranteed herself a medal from that series. At least she has a fixed reward from that.

If she was in the earlier races - even as the top seed - she could have made the same mistake and missed the final. A la Shriever.

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
