Huge result with a 2nd place in race 12 to put them back into 2nd overall, badly needed result for the lads. Need to beat Spain by at least 3 places in the medal race tomorrow to win gold

4th place tomorrow guarantees us a medal.

Can actually finish 9th and win a medal too (if unlikely)

I’d gladly take any colour medal for our guys tomorrow! Always remember that medal race for Annalise in 2012 when she had a 4-way battle for gold and finished in 4th in the end. I was dreaming of a surprise gold for us and we ended up in the dreaded 4th. I will not be greedy this time and if we can sneak bronze I would sign on the dotted line now :d

Must be so hard to decide how to approach a race like that. If I remember well Annalise Murphy, after the heartbreak of coming 4th in London, sailed pretty conservatively in the medal race in Rio to make sure of a medal, when the gold medal was arguably there to be won, but you'd have to say it was the right decision so as not to come home empty-handed. We're in for a nerve-wracking race tomorrow, fingers crossed the lads can bring home a medal of some colour.

Definitely think Gallagher was harshly judged there. I've watched a bit of the boxing this week outside of the Irish fights and a successful approach seems to be to celebrate every punch thrown loudly and with arms raised, even when you miss, celebrate at the end of every round like you've just won the gold and if you get in any bother just grab your opponent and run the clock down because you won't be penalised for it anyway.

With Harrington finishing up after the Olympics and us now casting our net wider in terms of medals and finals, maybe it wouldn't be as big a disaster as it once would have been if it dropped off the schedule for a few years.

Standing by this even more now after the O'Rourke fight. Honestly I'd be fine to let the boxing go for a few years now, much as it has bailed us out down the years it's now at the point where, because of the judging and refereeing, it's more trouble than it's worth. I'd rather see those competitors using their physical strengths in a boat or a canoe being ranked on their ability rather than at the whim of - at best - sub-standard boxing judges from around the world.

It's the arbitrary nature of the point deductions that are really sickening, sometimes you see fighters get a point taken off after a couple of warnings, the Polish fighter had 5 warnings in the last round and had no point deducted. I

I thought it was the right decision fwiw. Ugly fight and she could have had other deductions but such is life.

On to the next ones now

Well that has put a dampener on things again. Struggling to see where another medal is coming from in boxing outside of Harrington. Though not unexpected for me, I didn’t fancy our boxers to set the world alight to be honest. And O’Rourke did not fight well at all there, I think she can’t argue with the outcome to be honest. I am never confident with O’Rourke and that fight is exactly why.
Overall not overly miffed by these result, had prepared myself for boxing not to deliver for us.

Not the scoring I have an issue with as such as it was a very close fight and O'Rourke wasnt on her game at all, its the 5 warnings in final round without a point deduction, especially as the Pole's tactics were to spoil the fight and make it as scrappy as possible. Not too many next ones left in the boxing at this rate.

Hopefully Marley can pull off a win in the quarter final, and make up for O'Rourke's loss as she would have been one of our favourites across all sports for a medal.

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
