The 2024/25 edition of the UEFA Champions League will follow a new format

From the 2024/25 season, the 36 clubs will participate in a single league competition in which all 36 competing clubs are ranked together.

Under the new format, teams will play eight matches (four at home, four away) between September and January.

The top eight sides in the league will qualify automatically for the round of 16, while the teams finishing in 9th to 24th place will compete in a two-legged knock-out phase play-off to secure their path to the last 16 of the competition.

Teams that finish 25th or lower will be eliminated, with no access to the UEFA Europa League

Kick off on 9 July 2024 and runs until the final on Saturday 31 May 2025.

This will be hilarious if :POL Jagiellonia Białystok ends up having the shortest travel possible to Lithuania

Media over here thought HJK would be favored to progress.

Wait, a single ranking will be made based on matches played against entirely different opponents? That's hilariously ridiculous

Well, the dream sequel of this is almost over.

2nd round, 1st leg:

:LTU Panevezys - :POL Jagiellonia 0-4

:NOR Bodo/Glimt - :LAT RFS 4-0

Close to zero chances for another over the border clash.

FCSB - Sparta Prague 2-3 with a garbage of ref. I don't know why UEFA delegate a Danish ref where a team have a Danish coach and some Danish players. Sparta's GK keeping on time from 50th minute and no yellow card entire match.  Overall, Czechia has 2 teams in UCL play-off, congrats to them and good luck:yes

PAOK - Malmo 3-4 was something epic, great match for Swedish team, now let's see Sparta against Malmo:p

Qarabaq scoring 7 goals in Bulgaria against Ludogorets:yikes: I don't know what happened to Ludogorets, this team was very good some years ago, now it's a shadow...

Mourinho and Fenerbahce eliminated by Lille in 116th minute from penalty kick. Also Twente - Salzburg 3-3 was great to watch. Can't wait for the play-offs:bounce:

Slovan Bratislava just made it to the Champions League.

Becoming only the 4th :SVK club in history to progress to the main round after nowadays non-existant 1.FC Košice in 1997/98 (lost all 6 group games), nowadays 2nd division Artmedia Petržalka (Bratislava largest suburb) in 2005/06 (the only team to win a group match in Porto and reached also 3 draws in that group against FC Porto at home and in both games against Glasgow Rangers) and MŠK Žilina in 2010/11 (lost all 6 group matches)

    • Well it all started already after 2nd end and then they talked to the umpire. And the immediate reaction was to say the same accusations about Oskar instead to the umpire. this can not be seen in any other way as well rehearsed cheating.  You are allowed since a few years back to double touch the handle but you may never touch the granite. It is just like doing it with the broom further down the sheet

    • Some words about Ghiotto: for me he doesn't have the same personality/character, like Lollobrigida- I also wrote about this yesterday about case of Wiklund. Ghiotto can only win/win medals when he's in 100% shape. Otherwise, he gives up mentally. He can't break through in a difficult moment during the race and try to salvage at least some of his race. Today, the silver/bronze medal was within reach- all he needed was to win the heat against Begrsma (when was the last time he lost to him in a 10 km race?). In my opinion, Lollobrigida had the totally different personality, that Ghiotto did. When she would a similar mental, like Ghiotto, so she have given up yesterday with max. 2/3 laps remaining and finished 4. Another thing is that even without the right mentality, Ghiotto today had his worst 10k race in over 5 years and there's no excuse for that. Unless he was sick or injured, but I don't know anything about that yet.
    • When I was recently in Warsaw in December and walking its streets, I have the impression that for about 5-10 years, 1/3 of your athletes of most of popular sports summer and winter, will be probably came from Ukraine/Belarus etc., but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, the war contributed a lot to this, and it's not over yet    Poland did a great business with Semyrunyi, but it was certainly influenced by the fact that they have an indoor track and good training conditions there, but it could have been as you wrote, that today he would have won a medal for Kazakhstan or Germany. At all, Poland currently only has excellent sprint teams: men's and women's, so someone like Wladimir would be very useful in the long distances, because without him, Poland is practically nonexistent there. And yet, they have one more medal.    The Czech Republic, however, has the greatest luck: no indoor track at home, no major home events like the Olympics, etc, all the attention on ice hockey, but for 20 years they've had Sablikova and now Jilek- probably for next 20 years. Sport isn't always fair. Actually, Slovakia could at least get someone like that now, just to balance things out, instead of always having lucky of one country
