Your safest Gold Medal Picks for Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

How has somebody not mentioned Weightlifting till now? It is probably the most predictable sport in the Olympics.

Going by the easiest gold medallists, I think Li Fabin :CHN (Men's 61 kg), Lasha Talakhadze :GEO (Mens 102+kg), Hou Zhihui :CHN (Women's 49 kg) and Li Wenwen :CHN (Women's 81+kg) are guaranteed gold medallists.

If we’re talking about weightlifting, surely :USA Olivia Reeves will also be a pretty heavy gold medal favourite in women’s 71kg? :mumble:

That being said I’m not much of a weightlifting expert, so I could be completely wrong.

:AUS Women's 4x200m Freestyle

:AUS Women's 200m Freestyle - lock for Australia but could go to Titmus or O'Callaghan

:USA Women's 1500m Freestyle - Katie Ledecky

:CAN Women's 400m Medley - Summer McIntosh

:FRA Men's 400m Medley - Leon Marchand

:SWE Women's 50m Freestyle - Sarah Sjostrom

:ROU Men's 200m Freestyle - David Popovici

:USA Women's 400m Hurdles - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

I just went with the Tokyo gold medallists that I felt had the highest chance to repeat. There are definitely others who also are strong contenders for gold including Olivia Reeves :USA

Lets talk about Athletics:

Sydney Mclaughlin :USA : W 400M Hurdles

Kipyegon :KEN : W 1500m

Ingebrigtsen :NOR : M 5000M

Crouser :USA : M Shot Put

Duplantis :SWE : M Pole Vault

They all seem like pretty safe gold medal picks to me - Thoughts?. Anyone missing?

Faith is extremely likely to win however Hull just lost to her even though Faith broke wr.

I hope so but I feel like that’s the kind of event where there could be an upset, like McIntosh just does something crazy out of nowhere, which is very possible due to how young she is and how she is guaranteed to improve.

It was also a paced WR. Faith is a roaring favourite, possibly second only to Mondo. but you never quite know what can happen in a 1500 without pacemakers. It quite often can turn into an 800 metre runners race, despite being full of natural 5000 metre runners, and other athletes in the final are apt to upset tactical plans depending on their reading of their chances... Hull, Muir, Mageaan, Hassan,  Tsegay, Welteji will all want a 'true run' race because they're stronger. some of the Americans might prefer a more messy tactical affair

I don’t think that Crouser and Ingebrigtsen are in the same category as the others.
