2024 Olympics - Day -2/-1/0 (July 25-27)

Recommended Posts

Looks like FIFA will investigate. Will be interesting how thorough it is. I'd wager this is something we've been doing regularly since Herdman's days with the women. The men's team were accussed of it during his tenure there too. Probably been standard operating procedure for a decade.

Whether we get a full house cleaning, or if FIFA is content with a notable sacrificial lamb or two

Andre DeGrasse and Maude Charron have been selected as our flag-bearers for the opening ceremony.

Called (half of) it! Happy with the choices.

De Grasse was always my first pick for the guys (assuming he was in Paris already).

Can't argue with Charon. With the swimmers not attending I was thinking Black, but makes sense to go with a gold medalist

Like in Tokyo? :p

I don’t know, I feel like Charron shouldn’t have been chosen. She’s already been a flagbearer at a major (ish) sporting event, let someone else experience it.

For me opening ceremony flag bearers should be veterans that have contributed a lot to their sport. By that metric I'm fairly happy with the choices, even though neither were my first choice.

Charron got rewarded for her contributions during the Commonwealth Games though :p

True :P

Personally I don't think having been a flagbearer at the Commonwealth or Pan-am games should preclude you from being a flagbearer at the Olympics. It's a very different beast.
