Peruvian XC skier got 394 FIS points yesterday, might be worth a bit of attention to see if he closes in on 300 in the next weeks :p

Small NOCs often have no idea how qualification systems work. That's why we always have such articles, like before Rio when Malawi claimed that they suddenly received 2 wild cards for taekwondo (and yet they got 0 at the end...).

Besides, this would be incredibly unfair on so many levels. How can :AFG can get 2 (!) male skiers, while most of the qualified nations can enter only 1 per gender. And how can :AFG get invited, but no :SEN and :TGA for example...

Which countries would benefit from the KHL not sending their players? I mean, I thought in general the NHL being assholes was bad for Canada and USA mostly, but surely the KHL being assholes as well is bad for Russia, Slovakia and others, meaning it'd be good for other nations? Without NHL and KHL, would the 2nd-level players in North America suddenly be the best again? Or players from Scandinavian countries or something?

This should made some relatively important problems also for Canada. In fact after the NHL decision, they envisaged to send a team composed mainly from KHL players so the situation will not be so good for them as well if this disastrous scenario has to happen...but you know, the general depth of Canada is still impressively higher than in any other country, so you still must consider Canada as one of the favorites every time with every kind team they attend

here the Team Canada roster for the upcoming Euro Hockey Tour Karjala Cup tournament, very likely this will be the base of the Canadian Olympic roster for PC 2018

For USA it looks better since they are not so strongly KHL oriented, the roster for the Deutschland Cup (Also practically the base of the Olympic team 2018)

In overall it´s like phelps said, the thing would benefit a lot the Swedes. But especially Switzerland and Germany would be the winners from this situation because of their strong national championships tradition..

For us this would be the disaster, we will be forced to send a similar team from the last world championships composed of players from SVK and CZE leagues, and we all know how the tournament ended, we avoided the relegation just by one single goal

However, I hope this will not happen and the KHL players will be allowed to represent their countries at the Olympics.

Thanks. Very interesting to keep an eye on this, it might be something the bookmakers get wrong which gives 'us' the opportunity for some financial gain

    • Regarding the swimming they have added the 800m for men and the 1500m for women so cutting numbers would be odd.
    • That quota I’ve been told by an athlete aiming to qualify who I know online.
    • Has the quota for Canada been offically confirmed anyway, or is that just a rumour? I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.

    • In the past few games, Canada (and other nations) was given an overall athlete quota which they then divided it through the various sports.
