Thats like making usian bolt run 110 meters because he had the cheek to win his semi final.

Not really. It's like qualifying without needing repechages.

That's an idiotic format. So probably it will be like this in every class in a few years with the series not counting anymore, a bit like in shooting.

Yeah that’s such a stupid format. And the final race is also boring as heck. Most boring sailing event I’ve watched so far. With the boat speeds it makes for a great event, they need to do seriously better with showcasing it with a half-decent format.

Final could have 5 instead of 3 athletes, but otherwise this seems a lot nicer to watch than the calculating in a regular medal race. You qualify to get into the final and once you're there, you win, you win. Not 'you win, but there were not at least 3 boats between you and the number 2 in the ranking, so you didn't win'.

The only reason I had the slightest interest in yesterday's medal races for example was the bizarre mess at the end, until then it was....well, nothing really happening :p

A 3 boat final is just horrible, sorry it’s how I feel. And it’s incredibly unfair too to the winner of the series as they get one race to get familiar with the conditions of the day. It’s not hard to make it better.

Except the repechages work in your favour because you get to learn the course conditions.

As you said earlier, don't qualifiy first then, but then that's counter productive to olympic ideals isn't it

Asking someone not to qualify in first as a tactical advantage is just daft as well. Seriously, just make a better and fair format. It’s actually a very interesting category as they travel at great speeds so as sailing goes it’s very viewer friendly, with the right format.

In fairness, Wilson was guaranteed a medal by qualifying first. I know that's not what she wanted but it is a *big* reward anyway.

Had she had to go through the QF and SF she might have got used to the conditions but she might also have made the mistake and bounced out early. Which would have been even more frustrating.

I'm not saying that I think that the format is perfect. But I think there can reasonably be argued to be some benefits for the competitors, as well as some negatives.

    • apparently the Japanese organizers rejected OCA's nice request    now OCA is ordering them to do so in a not-so-nice language https://oca.asia/media/attachments/memberships_subcommittee/5/Decision_-_103rd_OCA_EB_Meeting_5ypY8y4.pdf   the last line is very interesting   I knew this for a while, for example that's why Jujjtsu is included in all of OCA events (despite being the worst sport to watch) but good to see OCA admit this. so with the corrupt OCA you can buy your way in. how much they paid the OCA officials for this ?   OK I know Qatar is financially supporting Padel (and UAE is paying everything for Jujitsu) but who is behind Teqball?  ! I don't think Thailand can do that.
    • Important information on team Aerials.   There is no AIN`s team at the start list of the world cup despite of the fact that belorussians have enough athletes to have a team.   https://medias4.fis-ski.com/pdf/2026/FS/8119/2026FS8119SLF1.pdf
    • By the way. It looks like no AIN`s will be in biathlon by the start of the Olympics. Russians filed an appeal to CAS to get AIN statuses in biathlon. But IBU did not agree to have hearings with short procedure. So the decisons are not expected before the end of qulifying period. (FIS could do the same but its top-officials prefer to help russians be back as quick as possible).   I would like to see Dolidovich at the Games. Because she is a real refugee of the relatively high level.
