You can’t do that anymore. Out of one, out of all is the rule, unless you can show some exceptional medical reason.

And rightfully so. If you're not going to run an event, let someone else take that spot.

Very mediocre Decathlon competition considering it is in a full stadium in Olympics. I was expecting above 9000 pts .
Leo the german need to work on his JT. Below 8800 pts for Gold :facepalm:You have go all the way back to 2008 Olympics to get Gold in Decathlon below 8800 Pts.

A poor first day hit Kaul hard :( After Tokyo another disaster in Paris.

Lack of quality in the field was another reason. Warner couldn’t finish , No Meyer No LePage . Very poor quality. I didn’t enjoy my favourite event of the athletics programme :(

Lack of quality? The level in decathlon is crazy high these days. Needing over 8700 to medal has only happened once before. That time 4th best did score just over 8400.

Yeah, it could have been even better if Skotheim or Warner did not fail their pole vault, if Lepage was not injured, if Mayer was not injured (but even then I didn't expect him to do well), if Ehammer might have participated in decathlon over long jump, if Owens or the Americans actually delivered once in an international tournament, if Scantling did not have a suspension, if Kyle Garland did not injure at USA trials, if Moloney didn't have another injury. If the Estonians would be stronger here.

And even then there are other guys stepping up, like Rooth and Roosen. But the level of competition is crazy high these days. Yeah, the winning score is not crazy high. But that's decathlon for you, they can't deliver every time, there are injuries sometimes, there are moments where even favourites can drop out. There are mistakes to be made. You can't have a perfect run every time.

I think we are in a crazy competitive era of decathlon. Maybe that lead to a bit too high expectations to you, but I did not feel there was lack of quality whatsoever.

Now that you write this all down, it is quite insane to think that with some less bad luck (injuries and no marks) we could well have had a situation where 8500 points might not even have been enough for the top-10.

Horrendous run from :POL Szymański in the first 110H heat. Clipped the hurdle half way through and it was over.

Our athletics is truly heading for the also-run status soon.

Lot's of people having problems in the Long Jump Q. Sadly amongst them is :BUL Saraboyukov who is with 2 X :( Nothing goes our way.

And it probably gets worse since he jumped 7.87 in the last attempt which ties :URU Lasa for 12th but will lose on countback.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
