No it wasn’t actually. In women’s C1 they had a very good chance, Ana Paula Fernandes was the bronze medalist at last years Pan American Games (in a full strength field)

At the end not many surprises apart missing a Men quota (especially Rossi failing to qualify was the biggest surprise for me)

 

Canada qualifying in both Canoe is also quite surprising, but, yeah good for them. USA failed to qualify in M K1 is not very expected neither, but was slightly bigger favorite here (however I expected Desnos to make it)

She earned that bronze only because the 3 others starters missed gates and did not continue to race focused to the end.

 

I know her from several world cup races and with all respect on her as athlete, she is just awful and even in this level she was not even by miles counted as any prospect for the quota.
