Really weird that this is announced now when it seems to have been sorted before Paris

They probably wanted to avoid Muslim outrage in a country where terrorist attacks are quite common compared to the mean :coffee:

Feel a bit sorry for all those world-class Bahraini teenagers working their way through the system.

I really wish world athletics took a stronger position on this aspect of Bahraini athletics, they just kind of added it on the end to appease people without really addressing the problem. When your entire athletics team is made up of naturalised athletes you must be doing something wrong. For me, the worst case has to be Salwa Eid Naser, who changed her name to compete for Bahrain from Nigeria. You can't blame the athletes because they are doing the best for their careers, but to me it send out the wrong image for the athletics community.

Someone like Naser makes one wonder what World Athletics could do against countries like Nigeria indeed.

Although anyway I'm not sure she's the greatest example: in her early teens she and her family already moved to Bahrain, where her dad was born. Probably almost any other Bahraini athlete would be a better example :p (and there too a good look should be had at their countries of origin)

Keely Hodgkinson announces she's picked up a training injury so is ending her year.    Too bad, she was gearing up for an on Kratochvilova's WR in Zurich which lots of people thought might be within range.

I’m not sure it’s wise for her to get that WR because of blatantly chemically assisted it is.

I think improved shoes, tracks & disco lights compensate for that.

Meeting in Fribourg :SUI tomorrow, promises "innovations"

Honestly, I always enjoy when meets like these try out new things. It's nothing important, so no problem. The problems come when these things are tried out at big championships :p

Like, taking the measurements for the pole vault by the actual height jumped. Might as well just remove the bar entirely then.

Apparently Tuesday's Continental Tour meet in Rovereto had the pole vault today, at least according to their schedule?

https://paliocittadellaquercia.it/en/time-table/

Anyone familiar with the results? The website still points to a 2024 results page and searching for the Italian federation's website brings my anti-virus to a meltdown, so yeah...quickly closed that one :d
