  • 1 month later...

:GBR women top qualifying for team pursuit with a 4:12.311 ahead of :NZL in second 4:13.637 and :AUS A team in third with 4:14.566. In terms of times, GB and New Zealand were both around 2 second slower than they recorded at Glasgow World Champs.

:JPN unlucky to miss out on a place in the first-round finishing in 9th place but will be awarded 8th place when it comes to Olympic ranking points.

:GBR men's team pursuit finish qualifying with 3:52.509 and now have to wait for the rest of the field to go although they do know that they have qualified for the 1st round. By comparison, their time is about 3 seconds slower than their qualifying time from last month's European Champs.

:GBR men team pursuit finish qualifying in 2nd place behind :AUS A who clocked a 3:51.203. GB will now be up against :NZL in the 1st round later on.

Not sure what happened with :ITA - they seemed to be having a great run for the first couple of kms but faded in the second half to finish qualifying in 4th place with a 3:53.553.

:BEL and :USA both miss out on the 1st round and will finish 8th and 9th respectively for Olympic ranking points.

If :GBR finish higher than 5th in Adelaide, they will overtake :BEL in the Olympic qualifying rankings.

Are :AUS "B" eligible for points scoring?

Had to do some digging on this as I wasn't sure but then couldn't find the answer in the track regulations manual so I have looked back at what happened in Milton last year when Canada had 2 teams in the pursuit.

My understanding is that only the top ranked team scores the points - so I am assuming that will be :AUS A. Then for the purposes of the Olympic ranking points, it is as if :AUS B isn't there and everyone who finishes behind them moves up 1 place.

Not sure what has happened in Women's Team Sprint qualifying but it looks like :GBR are topping the table as the only nation to dip under 47 seconds. :GER seem to have had an issue and are relegated.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
