Iran won the Sabre World Cup in Dakar today !! even though I know some big countries like Russia DNP and some countries are in rebuilding phase after the Olympics but still it was quite an achievement for Iranian fencing ! first team medal at the world Cup and first ever gold overall .and they beat Korea for the first time ever !

Fencing could be quite popular here if Abedini could score that damn 15th points at 14-14 against Hommer in semifinal. I still can see that moment in my nightmares lol  :p

Nice weekend for Italy...

Today Alessio Foconi won the Men's Foil GP in Turin (ITA) beating Alexander Massialas (15-7 the score) in the Gold Medal bout and the Italian team won the men's Sabre Team World Cup in Gyor (HUN), beating all their strongest rivals (GER in qtrs, RUS in semis and KOR in the final bout)...

this make up for the girls disappointing performance from yesterday in the Women's Foil GP (Errigo and Volpi ended up only in 3rd place, both going down to the Americans Kiefer - the eventual winner - and Ross) and the Men's Individual event in Gyor (Montano was the best among our guys, ending up in 7th place, meanwhile Korea got the double with Oh Sanguk having the edge over teammate Gu Bon Gil)...

Russian success thanks to Yana Egorian (who defeated the Hungarian Anna Marton in the final bout with a score of 15-11) in the Women's Sabre Grand Prix event in Cancun...

decent (but not unforgettable) performance for the Italian team, with 2 girls in the top 8 (and many in the top 32), but none of them on the podium...

Foil queen Arianna Errigo this time got to second round, thanks to a victory over Anna-Elizabeth Stone (USA) in round #1...but then she went out (15-12 the final score) against Manon Brunet (FRA), who eventually got to the quarterfinal stage (where she lost to Marton)...

Today it's the boys' turn...

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
