Disciplinary Panel

:CZE Jan Rutta suspended

The 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Disciplinary Panel has issued a one (1) game suspension to Czechia’s Rutta, Jan (number 44) for violating Official Playing Rule 45 (Elbowing) against Sweden's Lundestrom, Isac (number 37).

The incident occurred at 34:20 in the 2nd period of Game number 61 between Sweden and Czechia on 25 May 2024.

The Championship Disciplinary Panel determined that because the Player extended his elbow away from his body to make direct head contact with Sweden’s number 37, the Player recklessly endangered Sweden’s number 37, therefore violating Official Playing Rule 45 (Elbowing).

In addition, the Panel determined that the hit was made on a player who wasn’t in possession of the puck and was therefore ineligible to be hit. The Player clearly separated his arm from the body, and, with his elbow, made direct contact to the head of Sweden’s number 37 who was unaware and unable to protect himself from any contact by the opposition player.

For the above-mentioned reasons, the Disciplinary Panel determined that the Player violated Official Playing Rule 45 (Elbowing), and shall be sanctioned as follows:

  • Suspension for one game

Due to the suspension, the Player will miss tomorrow’s final between Czechia and Switzerland. The Player will be allowed to celebrate on the ice with his team during medal ceremonies.

Who will Slovaks support in tomorrow's final? Probably more to our neighbors from the Czech Republic?

As a child, I really liked the great Czech team from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries with Hasek, Jagr, etc. The Czechs at this time won gold at Olympics Games in Nagano and three times in a row World Championships? Too bad I'm not in Prague now :( Why don't you like Swiss?

    • Last stop on this TISC Central Asia tour: Turkmenistan    One of the most closed and censored lands in the world, Turkmenistan is a place with incredible things to visit, with a beautiful desert landscape, historical ruins from ancient civilisations, and the unique "Door to Hell".   But it is also a country where everything is controlled and restricted (we had no access to social networks and tons of blocked websites, can only enter with invitation letter, with a predefined tour and accompanied by a guide at all times), with giant megalomaniac buildings created in order to maintain a cult of the leader and its regime. It basically felt like what i imagine is North Korea (but without the hate for americans).   It is eccentric, it is impressive, but above all, it is bizarre. • Took a couple of videos, but completely forgot to take even a single picture and the file size of the videos are too big for Totallympics so I had to find a site to upload it to   https://streamable.com/ga23lv   Vibes at the game were good, place was loud, and I downed a $6 poutine from Costco before the game. Unfortunately, the game didn’t go so well, it took us a solid 45 minutes to actually start playing hockey besides some bursts here and there, and after coming back from down 1-3 we gave up the OT goal less than a minute in (Typical Canucks fashion), but  Lankinen stole us a point, they had so many solid opportunities on him and we had no business staying close.    Really mediocre start to the season for the Canucks so far, even with 11 points in 8 games, a lot of players not showing up (Petey, Soucy, Myers, Hög, Miller, DeBrusk, although for DeBrusk he’s been known to have a streaky game) and our power play and overtime have been fucking dogshit (power play has been like this for years). Shoutout to Garland, Hughes, Sherwood and Lankinen though they’ve been incredible so far
