Maybe that's true, but I argue that :KOR and :CAN are just doing better than last week, which has an impact on the chances of all other smaller teams.

I was wrong. If you sum the total World Cup points won (excl. relays) in week 1 versus week 2, then Italy is indeed under-performing compared to Stage 1.

Most improved are:

  1. :NED +336 points (796 vs. 460)
  2. :CAN +115 points (1143 vs. 1028)
  3. :CHN +115 points (716 vs. 601)

Biggest decreases:

  1. :ITA -151 points (442 vs. 593)
  2. :POL -142 points (211 vs. 353)
  3. :BEL -121 points (243 vs. 364)

The women's relay final was pure chaos: :CAN :KOR and :USA fell (first :USA, not much later both :CAN and :KOR). and :NED missed an exchange because the riders from Canada and the Netherlands were hindering each other.

I don't think anyone knows who won. The on screen timing now says :KOR won, but I'm totally not sure.

After about 10 minutes, a decision was taken: a penalty for :CAN for hitting the skater from team :KOR from behind, causing both their own skater and the Korean skater to fall.

:KOR indeed won gold, :NED silver and :USA bronze.

Looks like :POL is nowhere without Natalia Maliszewska and it would be even worse if we wouldn't have under our flag Neithan Thomas, Diane Sellier and Felix Pigeon...

According to the specialist speedkating website, schaatsen.nl, the Dutch team has lodged a complaint: they claim the Korean women skated one fewer round. As I understand it, according to our national coach, the jury has acknowledged this, and the expectation is that the result will be changed accordingly, hopefully before the next World Cup event in Beijing in early December .

One would say those 10 minutes they took yesterday should be enough to rewatch the entire race on slowmotion and easily count the laps, that should have been step 1...

I was also surprised that Korea finished one lap before the rest, but then again, it was probably the most chaotic race I've ever seen. Some of the skaters were also confused as Kristen Santos was sprinting to the finish with the Korean skater, and then it turned out that the US had to skate one more lap. Well now it turns out that Korea also had to skate one more, so both teams sprinted to early.
