Well, if that's the case, then they can already reallocate all quotas from German Open, Qatar Open and Japan Open. There is just no chance that someone outside of will be making the finals.

 

In any case, if quarterfinals are enough, then and have qualified just now.

According to our national federation, you have to reach the finals to qualify.

I'd give or a chance should they have a great tournament.

 

The purpose was probably two fold, to encourage nations to attend those events and to potentially reward a team who wouldn't qualify through the rankings and got a freak result (unlikely, but technically possible). While any nation which qualifies through the Opens would have likely qualified through the rankings it does have an implication for South Korea.

 

The quotas are attached by name so if one of the top South Korean pair qualifies to the Olympics at the Opens the other pair is denied a spot even if they finished with a higher ranking. Of course, what will likely happen is that South Korea would declined the Open quota and just take the ranking quota, but we could see a court challenge because of it.

Aaaand both are out. Two more quotas for the rankings (provisionally they would go to ).

Even if it´s really sad that they still did not qualify to Tokyo (That European Games failure will haunt for long time) at least new Very Valuable points in the ranking were added for Pištej/Balážová.

 

If I am not wrong, there 3 more World Tour events remaining before the Olympic Ranking deadline ?! Hopefully they will be able to repeat Quarterfinals participations in at least 2 of them, this should and might be enough to finally won that desired quota

Robles/Xiao will have an opportunity to qualify to the Olympics in mixed doubles, but they must defeat Wang/Sun in the semi-final.

It's almost impossible to beat China in table tennis, so we will not get the quota here, but hopefully we could qualify through the world ranking.
