The Badminton World Federation (BWF) can confirm men’s singles world No.1 Kento Momota was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday morning.

Momota sustained multiple laceration wounds to the face plus right maxillary sinus and nasal bone fracture and was taken to Putrajaya Hospital for treatment. He is in a stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was killed.

Three others were involved – Japan team assistant coach, Hirayama Yu; team physiotherapist Morimoto Akifumi; and Hawkeye system operator, William Thomas.

All three are in a stable condition. A BWF manager has been at the hospital throughout the morning to provide assistance to all parties involved.

Hopefully he and other survivors will recover soon.

It was scary when I saw the video on Twitter where Momota was sitting on the left side of the road and driver's dead body is still stuck in the van.

BWF to use synthetic shuttles starting from 2021: https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1ZJ0CE

It's not the Mavis or Carbonex, but a top-secret shuttle which had some in-depth trial in USA, Dubai, and Indonesia. One Badminton Asia official I know on Twitter gave a spoiler: A 90% similarity with a feathered shuttle.

Today I learned professional shuttles were made with actual feathers :yikes:

Nope. And usually badminton uses Excel files instead of PDF.

I’m glad the federation lets people use this, but it’s not really a great resource then. The amount of federations lacking good results areas is appalling. I’ve been able to save virtually nothing from the African Games this year. I place the majority of the blame on the organizers, but it would be nice of the IFs could fill that gap :(
