"What does this performance mean to you?"

Ah, marketing people and their original questions :p

Nothing beats the truly special “How do you feel after that performance?”

More long distance track action from Hengelo with some big names and probably magic disco lights.

Off we go in Hengelo & we have a mess-up with the time for Faith Kipyegon’s 1000m WR attempt....the magic disco lights said No Record though.

Weather pretty cold and driving rain, so anyone who gets a PB will be doing well.

Irish guy Brian Fay gets a PB, this is like Mallorca for him.

Next up, Sifan Hassan goes in the 10000m.  Said to be a WR attempt.....30:12 is Dutch record, perhaps more realistic.

WR pace at 3000m...Laura Weightman doing a great job pacing.

Sifan goes solo with just under 7000m to go

Sifan well up on the lights....is up at the 5000m mark!

Nah, has gone out too fast, is falling off her lap times.  Target now would be Paula Radcliffe’s ER at 30:01.

Final time 29:36.67, new ER & 4th fastest on the all-time list, very remarkable in the circumstances.

This story showed up in our media, legendary Serbian long-distance runner Olivera Jevtič got sabbotaged during the marathon.

She was aiming to qualify for her sixth Olympic appearance. She did not get serious injuries, but she might not recover until the next scheduled marathon races.

Here's a lovely 240p video to go along with that:

30 seconds in to the Women’s race & it is already Kenya v Ethiopia at the front.  Plus a smattering of ex-Kenyans & Ethiopians.

Actually on WR pace at 15 mins, does look cold though.  Even Polish people have coats on.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
