This 2000-2001 years German team is absolutely crazy impressive. such a talented generation, they probably never had before. Stutze, Seider, Reichel and Peterka names to mark for the future.

Pity for them Stutzle and Seider can not play 60 minutes, USA changed lines seeding in 3rd period and made the difference quite easily

However, even if they finish last in this "death group" they should be no worried at all in the relegation round.

Some quick Individual stats after Day 2

The top scorer player is Shane Pinto :USA with 6 points for 3 Goals + 3 Assists in 2 Games played ahead of his team mate Trevor Zegras :USA 0 + 5 and Alexis Lafreniere :CAN with 4 points for 1 + 3 in 1 match played. Interesting to note the :KAZ new sniper Maxim Musorov is 4th with 3 points for 3 goals in 2 matches !

Trevor Zegras leads the +/- table with +4 ahead of David Aebischer :SUI +3 in 1 match played and :USA ´s Shane Pinto and Jordan Harris both at +2 (+4/-2)

Linus Oberg :SWE lead the face-offs standing with a perfect 100% record (won all 6 face-offs he had against Finland !) Our Kristian Kováčik with impressive 86.67 % today against :KAZ is in a remarkable 3rd place in this statistic

Very pleasing is the Goaltender stat. :SVK Samuel Hlavaj leading this statistic with his 95.65 % today, 2nd is Justus Annunen :FIN 93.75 % against Sweden and 3rd Hugo Alnefelt :SWE with 92.00 % against Finland yesterday

Much less impressive is the position of our Oliver Turan :SVK who jointly with Danila Galenyuk :RUS are leading the most penalised player statistic both with already 12 penalty minutes in 1 match played..

    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
    • As @NearPupsays, figure skating. They are Uzbeks only by flag, in reality they are two Russian skaters who have changed their nationality
