Artistic Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023

:USA Gaudet routine is disgusting. Simply a set of simple technical elements but with the highest possible D, without the slightest choreography. A routine made by reading the folds of the rulebook, is disgusting bronze. This sucks.

Not a great routine for Tio, once again after some mistakes in qualy. I think that today Platanioti have some good chances for the "big one" :fingers:

Meh, Shortman was a bit overpaid. That was a great routine, with some minor mistakes on the legs elements, but 219 is a bit too much. She'll be on the podium probably.

Too bad, Platanioti totally ruined the routine in the second part. Disaster upon disaster, she completely collapsed physically, I think she was tired, but she also had no height in the elements. Let's just hope you don't scream conspiracy until next year.

She said she didn't have enough time to practice and only started preparing this choreography last month, and usually she has about a year to prepare, and that she also made some mistakes yesterday. So it seems her expectations were quite low and she is okay with 4th and 5th place.

She added that she would have liked to compete in other international events to adjust to the new system, and that she only did one other this year, unlike other athletes who did more.

Overall, she seemed pretty optimistic about the future and her main goals are Doha and Paris.

    • It's somewhat surprising that figure skating isn't more popular here.
    • I'm not against team events or even mixed team events, but I think they need to be more than the sum of individual performances. So relays are fine (including team event in luge), team pursuit too, team event in skeleton is ok cause you have this different type of start though I would prefer the luge system (with a chip instead of this board you definitely can't touch in skeleton ?). Rest needs to be rethought at least. And rules need to be coherent between the sports regarding how many teams you can enter, why is it 4 duos in alpine combined event and only 1 in CC team sprint ? 2 would be my limit for dual events, even in sports where they usually don't enter more than one team in WC events.    Alpine skiing (10)   No changes.   Biathlon (11 -> 9)   - Mixed relay + Single mixed relay. Agree with De_Gambassi, different format from the gender relays, increased chances for weaker nations to compete even if we would have two teams for some countries. - Both pursuits. I've seen several people complain about how tired the athletes were by the end of the Games during the mass-starts. Thing is these are the same people that are adamant on keeping the pursuit in the program. Either ditch them or treat the sprint as a qualification round. You would then have one individual races, one MS and one "exciting" double-event.   Bobsleigh (4)   No changes. Max 2 teams per country.   Cross-country skiing (12 -> 11)   - Both team sprints. + Mixed team sprint.  Same idea as in biathlon. Like some I'm all for a real sprint and not the dull attrition races we witnessed in Val di Fiemme. Freestyle is mandatory, can be uphill/downhill but not longer than 1'30.  - 50km W + 30km W   Curling (3)     No changes.     Figure skating (5 -> 3)   - Team event.  Awful ranking system. - Ice dance.  "Dance", enough said.   Freestyle skiing (15)   - Team aerials. + Ski-cross mixed event. Ideally luge-like with immediate start after your teammate crossed the finish line. Alternate M-W order between the rounds. In snowboard cross men were almost useless all day long.   Ice hockey (2)   No changes.   Luge (6)   No changes.   Nordic combined (3 -> 4)   + Gundersen NH W - Gundersen NH M + Mass-start LH M - Team event + Mixed team event   Short-track speed skating (9)   No changes.   Skeleton (3)    No changes.   Ski jumping (6 -> 5)   - Super team M   Ski mountaineering (3)   - Both sprints + Both individuals   Snowboarding (11)   No changes.   Speed skating (14)   - Mass-start in the current format is shite + (Re)introduce an allround competition inspired by track cycling's omnium (first version). So a couple of individual races (500 and 3000 ?), an elimination race, a points races to end it.  (-) This would be endurance based so maybe ditch 3000/5000.
    • Worth noting that these Olympics, there were separate qualification and event threads where as in the past, they were merged together in one thread so that makes the increase in replies even more impressive.
    • The best part of last nights closing ceremony was the highlight montage Eurosport made.   Anyone who didn't see it NEEDS to see it. Amazing.   Probably my second favourite montage of an OG after the London one in 2012.
    • After our first ever Olympic medal, it's time for our first Paralympic medal.  The chances are good, but I'm traumatized by the Chinese after 2022.    I'm also concerned about the atmosphere of these games.
    • no, there was a world cup stage also the following year, then the track was dismissed and the hall reverted back to its usual tasks (not sport related)
