:SUI beats :POL 30-28 which means we'll compete for 25th place at best :p

I wrote it here before, I wrote it many times, but i guess i'll repeat this.

The rapid decline of our M handball team - from 4th in Rio olympics to the shitty games like today is one of the worst things which happened in Polish sports in recent years. I am very sad about it.

Lijewski should be fired ASAP. He only got this job because of his decorated past as a player but let's be serious. He ain't a good coach and won't rally the troops. If the tournament wasn't expanded for no serious reason we wouldn't even qualify here in first place.

The evolution of Portuguese handball in the past 10 years of so has been really incredible.

being able to win to Norway, at a world championship, in their own venue, and finishing the first round in first place… incredible…

I feel only sad for the lack of headline news those guys deserve in Portuguese media…

yesterday's results:

Group A

:POL VS :SUI  28-30

:GER VS :CZE  29-22

Group A concluded with :GER on top with 4 points in the main round, both :SUI & :CZE qualified for the main round with 1 point each. :POL to the president cup, really surprised with the Polish defense, the lack of dynamic movement and big gaps on pivot is a mystery. :POL need a huge re-establish of their team with such performance they will struggle even to qualify to major events. very good work from :SUI & :CZE both were very close to do something with :GER but lack of experience in the 2nd halves was their problem.

Group D

:MKD VS :GUI 29-20

:HUN VS :NED 36-32

:HUN finished 1st with 3 points in the main round despite the bad start and draw against :MKD who qualified to the main round with 1 point. :NED Qualified 2nd with 2 points. the order is expected but they will face tough games in the main round with :AUT and :FRA

Group E

:BRA VS :USA 31-24

:NOR VS :POR 28-31

Portugal was the biggest surprise in the group, beating the home team :NOR and also the great consistency made them the black horse of the tournament. :USA was performing very well in their game against :BRA but no way to beat them. :NOR is the big disappointment and their supporter were left desperate with the bad results at home. in the main round :POR qualified with 4 points, :BRA with 2 and :NOR  with zero points.

Group H

:ARG VS :BRN  26-25

:EGY VS :CRO 28-24

:ARG  were dominating the game until minute 53 when a great came back from :BRN  made the draw but couple of good saves from :ARG GK guarantee the win for them and qualification for the main round.

:EGY dominated the home team :CRO from the first second till the end (Refs were not wrong in their decisions but were not consistent in their decisions) :EGY qualified to main round with 4 points boosting their chances to go to quarter final, :CRO  qualified with 2 points while :ARG qualified to the main round with 0 points.

yesterdays' results:

:JPN VS :CHI 26-31 Very good result for :CHI to qualify to the main round, the team improved (but not to compete with the high level yet). :JPN is a fast and rapid team but lacking the strength and good defense.

:SWE VS :ESP 29-29, great game from both giants, :SWE finished the first half 16-11 but a great comeback from :ESP in second half with special thanks to Alex Dujshebev who scored in the last 6 seconds and to Dujshebev junior (Daniel) who saved the long shot from the center to secure the draw in a thriller game. De Vargas ( :ESP GK) did one great moment in the game when he saved a penalty and the Ref gave the Swedish player Hampus a red card thinking it came straight to De Vargas face but the GK told the ref it came to his hand asking the ref to cancel the red card in a great moment  (at that time the score was 20-14 to Sweden) :yes

:CUB VS :CPV 28-38, great game from the African side, :CUB is a big question mark, in 1999 Wch they finished 8th and since then the team performance was keep going down (decent number of players switched nationalities), :CPV was leading the game from start till the end and secure a historical qualify to the main round.

:SLO VS :ISL 18-23, is it a surprise? ..yes and no .. :SLO should be the more favorable side but their performance even in the European qualification was not great.. :SLO beat :EST in European qualification with 1 goal difference in a very tough game. :ISL was performing very well from the beginning finishing the 1st half 14-8, :ISL GK get the credit for such brilliant result.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
    • Voted  Thank you for extending the deadline and allowing me to vote once my exams are over. @OlympicIRL
