Surfing competitions started today, I was taking a look at the confronts, and we have Rosas :PER against Barona :ECU on first heat.

They made the final at Lima, and Rosas got the gold and the Olympic Spot, but Rosas reached the qualifying position in the ISA Games, and "gave" her spot from Panamerican to Barona. I still remember Barona's celebration after the official confirmation, she even went to hug Rosas while she was getting out the sea.

Now, they face each other too soon :(

Men’s/women’s shortboard gold/bronze medal matches will be determined today, if I’m not mistaken?

It looks like all surfing finals will be held on October 30th. Nothing over the weekend due to the weather.

So an update on the men’s/women’s shortboard events:

In women’s shortboard, :BRA Tatiana Weston Webb has advanced to the final (and has assured herself a guaranteed silver medal) where she’ll face the winner of :CAN Sanoa Olin v. :CRC Leilani McGonagle (both are guaranteed at least bronze). As Tatiana has already qualified for Paris through the WSL Championship Tour, the heat between Olin and McGonagle is a direct battle for a Paris quota. In men’s shortboard, :VEN Francisco Bellorin (guaranteed at least silver) has advanced to the final, with the winner of :PER Lucca Mesinas and :PER Miguel Tudela (both are guaranteed at least bronze) joining him. As none of these athletes have secured an Olympic quota yet, whoever wins the gold medal match will qualify themselves for Paris.

Two different kinds of tears on display after that heat. Pretty compelling images in terms of what the Olympics means to people.

Not sold on SUP surfing, but longboard could have some promise as a second Olympic discipline.

The swell is so bad they've switched to nature documentary mode and are now showing the pelicans flying around and nesting nearby :roflmao:

Reyes :PER proving that a single quality wave can beat out a couple mediocre ones. Great surf from her :hatoff:
