I doubt that an American or Australian surfing aficionado  ( ie from the best surfing countries and cultures ) would agree with your analysis

I don't need them to agree...that's a fact. point.

WSL is a commercial circuit, built only for money purpose by a bunch of "rebels" who didn't want to follow the rules and limitations that a world federation recognized by the IOC has...

and the fact that apart from a few individuals from France and South Africa (and once every while from other Countries, but they are just temporary exceptions, like Igarashi, Hennessy or Hareb right now), all the competitors are from USA/AUS and lately BRA is there to be seen...it's not a wet fantasy...

this is the actual world championships, with all the best surfers in the world (since we have WSL and non-WSL specialists)...

the WSL is just a professional elite circuit with the best athletes from basically only the "surfing Nations"...they just established that league because they wanted to take advantage of the financial aspects and build a place where the best among the best were more easily recognizable by the fans...

it's like the UFC and the other MMA organizations...the first is supposed to have the best fighters, but that's not always nor necessarily true...they're just the reachest, better organized and more "media friendly" crew, rather than the cradle of the best specialists...

I doubt that any American or Australian surfing enthusiast or aficionado would share your view . this just sounds like another sporting federation full of fat Europeans who are professional committeemen

After the end of the second day of heats at women's competition, we have a panorarm about the olympic quotas.

Asia: :JPN:INA:KOR:CHN:THA:PHI still fighting for the asia's quota .

Africa: With only 4 competitors from 2 different countries :RSA:SEN. The surfer from Senegal has already disqualified. Then, South Africa needs to put one of their surfers between the 30th first positions to qualify, Bianca Buitendag from South Africa is in Round 4 and she is the favourite to get this quota.

Oceania: :NZL:GUM:FIJ for this spot. Paige Hareb from New Zealand is the favourite and the best athlete of this continent so far. (I'm not counting Australia, once they will qualify by WSL)

Europe: the most imprevisible. :NED:FRA:GER:ISR are the best countries so far, with surfers in Round 4. :POR:SUI:ITA:NOR:RUS:ESP:DEN:IRL:TUR:GBR have surfers in Repechage.

    • Fingers crossed the women’s curling gold medal match also undergoes changes, very preferably an hour earlier so it doesn’t conflict with the men’s hockey gold medal match    Seriously, what were they thinking
    • And yet another version is out . This time with some more noticeable changes.   Ice Hockey: Women's semifinals moved from the Rho Arena to the Santa Giulia Arena Women's gold medal game moved up to a 19:10 start time (was previous 20:10)   Speed Skating: Most of the events have had their session cut by somewhere between 5 and 30 minutes. Start times remain the same   Figure Skating: Looks like the order of events in team event is now: Ice Dance -> Pairs -> Women. Women were previously listed first.   Alpine Skiing: Downhill portion of the team combined cut by 45 minutes 1st Run of the Giant Slalom and Slalom events cut by 30 minutes   Ski Mountaineering: Sprint heats extended by 8 minutes. • Qualification for the 2026 World Baseball Classic has been announced. There'll be 2 qualification Pools and 4 teams in each with the top 2 teams in each pool advancing to the 2026 WBC.   As a fan of international baseball, words cannot describe how disappointed I am. We are coming off arguably the greatest international baseball tournament in history in 2023 and we are cutting the number of teams in the qualification round from 12 to 8 teams . How do you expect to grow baseball like that? Teams like  Argentina and  Pakistan have been on the rise but now they won't have the chance to qualify.     Taipei Qualification Pool (Feb. 21-25, 2025)  Nicaragua  South Africa  Spain  Taiwan     Tucson Qualification Pool (Mar. 2-6, 2025)  Brazil  China  Colombia  Germany

    • Well... I'm late, as always, but unfortunately I couldn't follow live and I've just finished catching up with the thread.    Congratulations to our winner @Hipooo and to @Belle and @Erigert on their medals.    Well done to our host @Cinnamon Bun, who put up a huge effort managing the contest.   Thank you to everyone who voted for our song and helped us achieve this 5th place. I saw we were very close to a podium finish, but this is still a great result.   Congratulations to @Makedonas on the very successful song choice.   I'll now share my ballot.     1st   12 pts   Romania  2nd   11 pts   Bulgaria  3rd   10 pts   Sweden  4th   9 pts   Mexico  5th   8 pts   Brazil  6th   7 pts   Indonesia  7th   6 pts   China  8th   5 pts   France  9th   4 pts   Denmark  10th   3 pts   Spain  11th   2 pts   Italy  12th   1 pts   Albania    Res1   Ireland  Res2   India  Res3   Hungary   I'm looking forward to seeing you all in the next contest!
