:TUR Sakarya World Cup round 1

Men:

1. :FRA Romain Mahieu

2. :COL Diego Arboleda Ospina

3. :FRA Joris Daudet

Women:

1. :GBR Bethany Shriever

2. :SUI Zoe Claessens

3. :USA Alise Willoughby

Super strong first day for the French men's team with four athletes in the final and two on the podium. Could definitely see a hometown winner in Paris next year.

Meanwhile for the :NED team Niek Kimmann finished 4th, Laura Smulders and Manon Veenstra 6th and 7th.

It was a great result for France but to be fair, given their riders comprised more than 20% of the total in the field and they are the top ranked nation, it would have been pretty surprising if they hadn't featured pretty heavily in the final results.

You're right of course. But the width of the France team is part of the reason why I think they've got a big chance of success next year. Right now Pilard, Daudet and Mahieu are all medal favorites in any field.

I believe Kye Whyte was absent this world cup, other than that most favorites were present (Kimmann, Marquart, Kennedy and the Colombians).

Still early season though, we'll see how the ranking develops.

Maybe 19 years old Dutch talent Jaymio Brink reaches more finals like today:d

Double win for :GBR Shriever is a great result but her performances are to large extent papering over the lack of depth we currently have in the women's event. GBR is the only country in the top 10 ranked nations that only counts 2 riders in the ranking score as opposed to 3 and despite that, they're likely to move up to 5th or 6th in the next  Olympic ranking list

Awful start to the weekend in Arnhem/Papendal, where a young rider crashed hard in training today. Emergency helicopter went there and the rider was eventually transported to the Nijmegen hospital. No word about condition, gender or nationality, although the language suggests it is an U23 rider.

Edit: local news in our province mentions a collapsed lung, a bruised lung and a severe concussionc, condition is mentioned as 'stable'.

No Dutch medals on the second day in Papendal. One hopeful result however is Jaymio Brink reaching his second final in his debut year in the elite men field.

:FRA yet again proving to be favorites for gold at Paris 2024 in the men's elite. Hopefully they don't collapse in the final like they did at Tokyo 2020. (They had three athletes in the final, and failed to win a medal, despite having a couple medal contenders)
